Job summary

Newmont is seeking a Benefits professional to oversee U.S. and Canadian retirement programs within the Benefits Center of Expertise. The role involves managing escalated employee and retiree inquiries, vendor relationships, and ensuring regulatory compliance across jurisdictions.

You will partner with actuaries, site HR, and other internal teams to support valuations, reporting, and process improvements, including annual plan audits and the SOX control for the U.S. pension plan.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, business administration, mathematics, or related field.
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. and Canadian retirement plan design and regulations.
  • Experience with U.S. and Canadian retirement plans (3+ years).

About this role

This is a key position in the Benefits function that sits in the Benefits Center of Expertise and assists in the management of Canada and U.S. retirement programs through supporting escalated employee and retiree needs and inquiries, managing vendors, creating communications, ensuring compliance, and providing project support.

Responsibilities
  • Research escalated employee questions regarding retirement-related items and meet virtually with retirees as needed.
  • Lead vendor management including monthly calls and issue resolution.
  • Partner with actuaries on valuations, compliance, and reporting.
  • Problem‑solve and research retirement issues and provide recommendations for resolution.
  • Manage semi‑annual Savings Equalization Plan Open Enrollment.
  • Liaise with site HR and other teams on requests for benefits support.
  • Ensure all plans are in compliance with applicable local, provincial, and country laws and regulations.
  • Lead annual audits for plans requiring internal or external audits.
  • Stay informed on new and changing retirement regulations, determine applicability, make recommendations, and implement changes as required.
  • Continuously consider how the plan supports the Global Benefits Strategy and suggest changes or updates when necessary.
  • Serve as SOX Control Owner for the U.S. pension plan.
  • Partner with vendors, IT, HR Service Delivery, Payroll, Legal, Treasury, and other Newmont teams to solve problems and suggest process improvements.
  • Provide project support as benefits subject matter expert for U.S. and Canadian retirement programs.
  • Work closely with the retirement plan administrator to provide guidance and answer questions as they arise.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge: Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, mathematics, or a related field (preferred). Deep knowledge of U.S. and Canadian retirement plan design, regulations, and legislation. Familiarity with plan texts and employee benefits information requirements.
  • Experience: 3+ years experience with U.S. and Canadian retirement plans. Preference for experience in mining, construction, utilities, or other heavy industries.
  • Skills and Abilities: Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills with strong attention to detail. Ability to keep information confidential. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Familiarity with SAP and SuccessFactors (CORE) helpful. Ability to deliver on tight deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
