The person selected for this role must have a primary residence within the state of Georgia.

General Definition of Work

Performs intermediate professional work providing retirement program information and services to jurisdictions and employees in an assigned region. Work is performed under supervision of the Field Services Manager and the limited supervision of the Retirement Services, Deputy Director and Director of Retirement Services.

Position Responsibilities
  • Supports the Association's "Four Pillars" through the support of staff and interaction with local governments and authorities; has knowledge of and general understanding of the programs and services offered by the Association;
  • Provides and exhibits outstanding customer service, teamwork, and organizational commitment;
  • Represents the Association to jurisdictions in assigned geographic region; establishes contacts and relationships with jurisdiction, management, staff and elected officials; receives and responds to program participant and Association staff inquiries covering specifics of various retirement plans, investments, distribution requests, retirement needs, plan review and website navigation;
  • Coordinates site visits with appropriate jurisdiction staff; participates in individual and group meetings, employee benefit/retirement fairs, and educational workshops;
  • Partners with jurisdiction to conduct new employee orientations; explains programs available to jurisdiction; assists with the completion of required forms; submits completed paperwork for processing;
  • Meets with groups of jurisdiction employees and retirement program participants in defined contribution and defined benefit programs to educate, enroll, and provide service for investment accounts; distributes defined benefit statements to program participants and explains changes, updates and effects on individual retirement plans;
  • Conducts retirement workshops for targeted groups identified in conjunction with jurisdiction; prepares presentation materials; presents materials and responds to questions and discussion; contacts interested attendees to provide on‑going assistance in determining and assessing individual retirement goals;
  • Responds to contacts by employees and program participants individually in person, by email, or telephone; explains program provisions; assists Defined contribution participants in making investment decisions; provides information regarding 457 Unforeseeable Emergency distributions; discusses Defined Benefit retirement provisions and options for retirement; assists in website navigation;
  • Meets with individual participants in Defined Contribution programs prior to termination or retirement; discusses options for distribution of accounts;
  • Meets with beneficiaries of deceased participants to provide information regarding benefits under the retirement programs; assists beneficiaries in making financial decisions regarding benefits or other financial considerations related to the retirement program;
  • Represents the Association at various professional and legislative conferences and meetings;
  • Develops travel schedule, submits travel and related expenses; prepares and submits reports related to jurisdiction activities regarding possible changes to retirement or other programs and other activities that may affect client relationships;
  • Determines supply needs for self or jurisdictions, including forms, packets and marketing materials; ensures timely request and receipt of materials; arranges shipment of supplies and materials to jurisdiction and other locations as needed;
  • Keeps abreast of market activity and economic conditions; stays current on changes or possible changes to retirement regulations and their potential impact on individual retirement plans and investment accounts;
  • Ensures that all Continuing Education and State and FINRA requirements are met to maintain credentials needed to perform duties; attends necessary classes and completes testing in person or via web; files appropriate paperwork with credentialing agencies;
  • Operates a variety of standard office equipment;
  • Supports the overall organization by executing the directives as set forth by the Association;
  • Operates from a remote (home) field office with travel to jurisdictions in assigned area 3-4 times a week;
  • May require overnight travel.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree with coursework in finance, accounting, economics, or related field and
  • considerable (3 to 5 years) experience in financial services,
  • or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements
  • This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force;
  • Work regular requires sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and reaching with hands and arms and occasionally requires standing, walking and lifting;
  • Work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels;
  • Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities;
  • Work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions;
  • Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
Special Requirements
  • Possession of Financial Industry Regulatory Authority Series 6, 63, and 65 licenses;
  • Certified Retirement Counselor (CRC) certification within 6 months of hire;
  • Possession of appropriate State Life and Health Insurance and variable annuity licenses;
  • Valid driver's license in the State of Georgia.
