Summary of Position’s Purpose

The Retiree Return-to-Work Substitute Teacher provides instructional support by serving as a substitute teacher on an as-needed basis. This position ensures continuity of learning by maintaining a positive classroom environment and implementing lesson plans provided by the regular classroom teacher.

  • Must be retired from Teachers' Retirement System of Louisiana
  • Louisiana teaching certificate preferred; additional criteria as established by the School Board

Designing and Planning Instruction

  • Activities, materials, and assessments aligned to state standards
  • Logical sequencing building on students’ background knowledge

  • Regular opportunities to accommodate individual student needs
Assignment and Assessment Plans

Learning Environment

  • Managing textbook distribution, collection, and fee collection for damaged or lost books
  • Leadership responsibilities and assistance to peers in maintaining a safe and orderly environment
  • Providing families with frequent updates on student progress with professional and cultural sensitivity
  • Attendance at faculty meetings, parent/teacher organization meetings, and other school functions
  • Responsibilities for collection and distribution of all fees collected
  • Performance of duties during recess, lunch, planning periods, and library periods
Instruction, Supervision, and Non-Instructional Components
  • Instructional Components: Lesson planning, instruction, collaboration, grading, attendance, grade entry, timely parent communication
  • Supervision: Monitoring students during school events, drop-off, classroom, recess, lunch, assemblies, and after school
  • Non-Instructional Components: Attendance at faculty, staff, department, training, IEP, parent-teacher, open-house, graduation, and committee meetings
  • Extracurricular Activities: Attendance at up to 15 athletic events per year and sponsorship of club activities
  • Perform other duties as required
