Job summary

The City of New York’s Office of Labor Relations seeks an Insurance Advisor to support the Retiree Client Service Department, handling retiree health benefits, Medicare Part B reimbursement, and enrollment for thousands of retirees and dependents.

You'll respond to inquiries, guide enrollment, and coordinate with carriers and pension systems. NYC residency is generally required; opportunites under the 55-a program and federal loan forgiveness programs are available.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree plus one year of full-time paid experience within the last six years in fire, casualty or surety insurance as a corporate insurance manager, insurance agent, insurance underwriter or insurance broker.
  • High school graduation or GED with five years of satisfactory experience within the last six years as described in (a) above.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience; high school graduates with at least one year of experience in the last six years as described in (a) above.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to retirees' inquiries by phone, email, and in person.
  • Guide employees through the health insurance enrollment process.
  • Coordinate with operations, carriers, and pension systems to resolve complex insurance cases.
  • Provide COBRA counseling and benefits guidance to survivors, including line-of-duty survivors.
  • Meet quality, quantity, and timeliness standards per department guidelines.

Education

Bachelor's degree + 1 year of full-time insurance experience in fire, casualty or surety as a corporate manager/agent/underwriter/broker
High school graduation or GED with 5 years of relevant insurance experience
Equivalent education/experience; high school diploma with 1 year experience in described roles
