Reports to: Retail District Manager

Position Overview:

The Store Manager is responsible for the general day-to-day operations and supervision of the store, including sales and staff, to ensure that it runs smoothly and meets sales goals. As with all positions at Hilliards Chocolates, prompt arrival at work, commitment to shift, positive attitude, and adherence to company policies is expected.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Plan and promote daily work schedule
  • Recruit, interview, train, supervise and appraise staff
  • Foster and exhibit a positive work environment; lead team by example
  • Exhibit and enforce proper dress code and ensure all other Company policies are being adhered to
  • Prepare employee performance evaluations and implement improvement plans
  • Maximize productivity, sales targets and profitability
  • Report “bottle necks” within Department(s) to Senior Management
  • Manage store operational issues, to include, but not limited to, housekeeping, administrative duties, physical inventories, price changes, etc.
  • Promote and market the business
  • Oversee pricing and stock control
  • Manage store revenue, including cash handling
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety guidelines
  • Communicate, execute and manage marketing/promotional programs
  • Provide exceptional customer service
  • Respond to customer queries and resolve complaints by determining optimal solutions
  • Interact professionally and in coordination with delivery drivers
  • Handle ingredients and finished products with care
  • Report product issues immediately to Senior Management
  • Report employee issues immediate to Senior Management
  • Create/generate Department schedules and task sheets
  • Work and communicate effectively and professionally with other Managers
  • Ring up sales at registers (following proper cash register procedures - clearly state totals to customers and accurately count back change) and/or bag merchandise
  • Maintain an awareness of allergens and product ingredients
  • Conduct store meetings
  • Coordinate with and report to Senior Management
  • Complete familiarity with Hilliards’ standards, policies and procedures
  • Act and report any wrong doing adverse to the interests of Hilliards

· Attend and participate in employee meetings, trainings, and development as required

· Perform other related duties as needed or assigned by Senior Management.

Other Duties:

Additional job functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure the cleanliness of the store
  • Set up and maintain displays
  • Interact with vendors/suppliers

· Ensure all orders are documented and released for pick-up

  • Maintain adequate store supplies; order and receive supplies

Language Skills:

Individual must have excellent communication and telephone skills. Individual must be able to read, write, understand and fluently and clearly speak English as required for effective teamwork and coordination to fulfill the essential functions of the job. Individual must demonstrate the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, policies, and procedure manuals. Bi-lingual skills may be helpful.

Reasoning Ability and Other Skills:

Individual must have strong operations experience in receiving, stock and inventory as well as “front-end” management. Individual must have strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate others. Individual must have excellent time management, math and budgeting, analytical and decision-making skills. Individual must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Must have proficient computer and numerical skills and must have the ability to read, count and write accurately. Must have the ability to make correct monetary change. Must be familiar with all aspects of Hilliards’ computer/cash register program(s)/system(s). Individual must have the ability to assess situations and resolve routine matters without supervision. Must have excellent understanding of health and safety and hygiene rules. Must have good attention to detail. Must have good analytical skills to identify the nature of problems, determine what is needed to rectify problems and implement new procedures to resolve the problem.

Education:

A high school degree is required.

Experience:

At least three years prior retail management experience is preferred.

Individual must be a positive team player and display confidence and resourcefulness. Individual must have an upbeat demeanor, with a sales-oriented personality. Individual must be a good judge of character to ensure and maintain an efficient and motivated staff. Individual must be able to effectively teach/develop others. Individual must be able to work independently and demonstrate sound judgment. Individual must display a professional manner and possess good management skills at all times. Individual must possess patience, good judgment, tact, accuracy, and reliability. Individual must demonstrate multi-tasking skills and exhibit effective time management. Individual must have a self-awareness of their appearance/personal hygiene. Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and have the ability to prioritize.

Physical Requirements:

Excellent fine motor skills and dexterity of wrists, hands and fingers are necessary for operating calculators and other office equipment such as fax machines, copiers, and phone systems and for writing notes/messages, completing paperwork and departmental reports and gift wrapping and ribboning. Must be able to reach up and outward with arms and be able to bend at knees. Must be able to balance/climb step ladder for setting up displays. Must be able to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift no more than 30 pounds. Must be able to work in an environment that processes peanuts, tree nuts and other allergens. Individual must be able to move freely and easily throughout all areas of Hilliards’ facilities. Individual must have the ability to work attentively and with concentration.

Other Requirements:

● Individual must be able to maintain a flexible work schedule including some evening, weekend and holiday shifts to accommodate the needs of the Company.

● Must have reliable means of getting to the workplace

● Must be eligible to work in the United States

● Must be willing, able and available to work on-site to fulfill the essential functions of this position

● Must be willing, able and available to work overtime as needed, including weekends and holidays

● Must be willing to cross-train to learn the essential functions of other positions, depending on the needs of the Company
