The Darien Sport Shop, founded in 1946, offers an exceptional shopping experience with three expansive floors featuring designer and contemporary clothing, accessories, gifts, and sporting equipment for all ages. Known for its outstanding customer service and unique in-store offerings, the shop provides professional alteration services by skilled tailors, free local delivery, and hosts special events like fashion previews and trunk shows. As a family-owned and locally-operated business, it upholds a legacy of personalized service and active engagement in community and philanthropic initiatives.

Role Description

We’re looking for a Sales Associate who loves connecting with people, takes pride in knowing the product, and finds genuine satisfaction in helping a customer look and feel their best. This is not a role for someone who waits to be approached — it’s for someone who is present, curious, and energized by the floor.

At DSS, our sales team is the experience. You’ll build real relationships with customers, some of whom have been shopping with us for decades. You’ll develop deep product knowledge across a curated, high-quality assortment. And you’ll be part of a tight-knit team that genuinely supports one another and takes pride in the store.

Part-time, Full-time and Seasonal candidates are both welcome. If you’re the right person, we’ll make it work.

What You’ll Do

1) Customer Experience

• Greet, engage, and build genuine rapport with every customer who walks in the door — make them feel at home
• Provide thoughtful, knowledgeable guidance on product, fit, styling, and gifting across all departments
• Develop and maintain lasting client relationships that bring customers back season after season
• Manage and maintain a customer wish list, following up when new product arrives that fits their taste
• Support in-store events and community activations that bring the DSS experience to life

2) Selling & Product Knowledge

• Meet individual and team sales goals with a focus on building units per transaction and basket size
• Develop and continuously deepen expertise across our brand assortment — fabrics, fits, construction, and care
• Introduce customers to complementary categories, brands, and our suiting program
• Participate actively in product training, brand clinics, and seasonal knowledge sessions

3) Store & Operations

• Uphold visual and merchandising standards on the sales floor throughout the day
• Support receiving, replenishment, and inventory processes as needed
• Operate the point-of-sale system accurately and efficiently
• Help maintain a store environment that feels welcoming, organized, and worthy of the brands we carry

What You Bring

• Strong Customer Service and Interpersonal Skills to provide an exceptional shopping experience and build lasting relationships with clients
• Retail Sales experience with a focus on achieving and exceeding sales goals
• Solid Product Knowledge to effectively guide customers in their purchasing decisions
• Excellent Communication skills for interacting with customers and collaborating with team members
• Dependability, professionalism, and a proactive attitude
• Prior experience in retail or fashion would be an advantage
• Sensitivity to and alignment with the values of a family-owned and community-focused business
• Comfort working a flexible schedule that includes weekends and key selling periods
