Job Summary

PetSmart’s Pet Associate (Retail Sales Associate) engages with pet parents and their pets, providing positive experiences while upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. Responsibilities include store cleanliness, pet safety, and direct care of pets within our store.

Job Responsibilities

• Enhance the pet parent experience in person, over the phone, at the register, and online.
• Greet pet parents and answer questions throughout the store.
• Prepare online orders for in-store pickup, ensuring a smooth experience.
• Care for store-owned pets, including feeding, watering, and cleaning habitats.
• Maintain store cleanliness standards.
• Support weekly price changes and promotional pricing.
• Stage and sort new products to match sales floor plans.
• Replenish products to meet sales standards.
• Recommend and sell merchandise, services, and live pets.
• Administer pet medications as directed by a veterinarian.
• Promote events like adoptions, Treats enrollment, and charity events.
• Ensure a safe environment for staff, pets, and customers.
• Act immediately if a sick or injured pet is identified, including transport to the vet.
• Assist in various store areas as needed.
• Participate in our culture of Belonging and Recognition.
• Follow all company policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
• Ability to react under pressure and maintain composure

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Stand, walk, climb ladders, handle objects; reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear; vision abilities including depth perception.
• Lift up to 50 pounds frequently; team lift over 100 pounds occasionally.
• Exposure to moving mechanical parts, wet environments, pet hair, and moderate to high noise levels.
• Handling live animals is common.
