Job Summary

PetSmart’s Pet Associate (Retail Sales Associate) engages with pet parents and their pets, providing positive experiences and upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. Responsibilities include store cleanliness, pet safety, and direct pet care within our store.

Job Responsibilities

• Ensure a positive pet parent experience in person, over the phone, at the register, and online.
• Greet pet parents and answer questions.
• Prepare online orders for pickup, ensuring a smooth experience.
• Care for store pets, including feeding, watering, and cleaning habitats.
• Maintain store cleanliness standards.
• Support pricing and promotional activities.
• Stage and sort new products.
• Replenish and recover products on the sales floor.
• Recommend and sell merchandise, services, and live pets.
• Administer pet medications as directed by a veterinarian.
• Promote store events and initiatives.
• Ensure safety for all—employees, pets, and customers.
• Respond promptly to sick or injured pets, including transport to the vet.
• Assist in various store areas as needed.
• Participate in a culture of belonging and recognition.
• Follow all company policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to react under pressure and stay calm.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Stand, walk, climb ladders, handle objects, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear.
• Frequently lift/move up to 50 pounds; occasionally more than 100 pounds with assistance.
• Exposure to moving mechanical parts, pet hair, and moderate noise; occasional exposure to high noise levels and live animals.
