Job Summary

PetSmart’s Pet Associate (Retail Sales Associate) is responsible for engaging with pet parents and their pets while providing positive experiences and upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. This role also shares responsibility of store cleanliness and maintenance, pet safety standards, and the direct care of pets within our store.

Job Responsibilities

• Engage with pet parents in person, over the phone, at the sales register, and online to ensure a positive experience.
• Greet pet parents and answer their questions throughout the store.
• Prepare online orders for pick-up and ensure a smooth pickup process.
• Provide healthcare for store-owned pets, including feeding, watering, and cleaning habitats.
• Maintain store cleanliness standards.
• Support weekly price changes and promotional pricing.
• Stage and sort new products to match sales floor plans.
• Replenish and recover products to meet sales standards.
• Recommend, inform, and sell merchandise, services, and live pets.
• Administer store-owned pet medications as directed by a veterinarian.
• Promote special events such as adoption weekends, Treats enrollment, and charity events.
• Ensure safety for staff, pets, and customers.
• Act immediately if a sick or injured pet is identified, including transport to the vet as needed.
• Assist in various store areas as required.
• Participate in our culture of Belonging and Recognition.
• Follow all company policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Ability to react under pressure and maintain composure.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Stand, walk, climb ladders, and handle objects; reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear; specific vision abilities required include depth perception.
• Lift and move up to 50 pounds frequently; team lift more than 100 pounds occasionally.
• Exposure to moving mechanical parts, pet hair, and moderate noise; exposure to live animals is common.
