Job Summary

PetSmart’s Pet Associate (Retail Sales Associate) is responsible for engaging with pet parents and their pets while providing positive experiences and upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. This role also shares responsibility for store cleanliness, pet safety standards, and the direct care of pets within our store.

Job Responsibilities

• Engage with pet parents and their pets in person, over the phone, at the register, and online.
• Greet pet parents and answer their questions throughout the store.
• Prepare online orders for in-store pickup, ensuring a positive experience.
• Provide healthcare for store-owned pets, including feeding, watering, and cleaning habitats.
• Maintain store cleanliness standards.
• Support weekly price changes and promotional pricing.
• Stage and sort new products to match sales floor plans.
• Replenish and recover products to meet sales standards.
• Recommend, inform, and sell merchandise, services, and live pets.
• Administer store-owned pet medications as directed by a veterinarian.
• Promote events like adoption weekends, Treats enrollment, and charity events.
• Ensure a safe environment for associates, pets, and pet parents.
• Act immediately if a sick or injured pet is identified, including transportation to the vet.
• Assist in various store areas as needed.
• Participate in our culture of Belonging and Recognition.
• Follow all company policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
• Flexible schedule, able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to react under pressure and maintain composure.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Stand, walk, climb ladders, handle objects, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear. Vision abilities include depth perception.
• Frequently lift/move up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift/move over 100 pounds with assistance.
• Exposure to moving mechanical parts, wet environments, pet hair, and moderate to high noise levels. Handling live animals is common.
