Job Summary

PetSmart’s Pet Associate (Retail Sales Associate) engages with pet parents and their pets, providing positive experiences while upholding the company’s vision, mission, and values. Responsibilities include store cleanliness, pet safety, and direct pet care.

Job Responsibilities

• Enhance the pet parent experience in person, over the phone, at the register, and online.
• Greet pet parents and answer questions.
• Prepare online orders for in-store pickup, ensuring a smooth experience.
• Care for store-owned pets, including feeding, watering, and cleaning habitats.
• Maintain store cleanliness and support pricing and product placement.
• Recommending and selling merchandise, services, and live pets.
• Administer medications to store pets as directed by a veterinarian.
• Promote events like adoption weekends and charity events.
• Ensure a safe environment for staff, pets, and customers.
• Take immediate action for sick or injured pets, including transport to vet.
• Assist in various store areas as needed and participate in our culture of belonging and recognition.
• Follow all company policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
• Flexible schedule, able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
• Ability to react calmly under pressure

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Stand, walk, climb ladders, and use hands frequently; reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear; vision abilities required.
• Lift/move up to 50 pounds regularly; team lift more than 100 pounds occasionally.
• Exposure to moving mechanical parts, wet environments, pet hair, and moderate noise levels; handling live animals is common.
