Retail Sales Associate 1Position SummaryThe Retail Sales Associate 1 creates a helpful, welcoming customer experience while supporting sales, merchandising, inventory, and daily store operations. This position listens to customer needs, recommends appropriate products and solutions, processes transactions accurately, and maintains a clean, safe, and well-stocked sales floor.The successful associate demonstrates Gold Beach Lumber Yard's Core Values through dependable service, teamwork, product learning, honest communication, and genuine engagement with customers and coworkers.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesCustomer Service and SalesFollow the company's Seven Steps of Customer Service and greet customers promptly and respectfully.Ask questions to understand each customer's project, product needs, budget, and timeline.Recommend products and practical solutions within the associate's level of knowledge and seek assistance when needed.Help customers locate merchandise in the store and online, and assist with special orders when appropriate.Answer telephone calls confidently and connect customers with the appropriate person or department.Communicate product availability, pricing, promotions, order status, and expected timelines clearly and accurately.Build positive customer relationships that encourage trust, repeat business, and referrals.Transactions and Order SupportProcess cash, charge, account, return, and exchange transactions accurately in accordance with company procedures.Prepare quotes, sales orders, special orders, and related documentation accurately within assigned authority.Protect customer and company information and follow cash-handling, account, and fraud-prevention procedures.Coordinate with coworkers and other departments to support order completion and timely customer follow-up.Merchandising and Store OperationsStock, face, price, and maintain assigned areas so merchandise is organized, accessible, and presented professionally.Maintain awareness of current promotions, advertisements, featured products, and seasonal priorities.Assist with receiving, processing, and putting away shipments, including keeping receiving and back-stock areas clean and organized.Monitor shelves for low inventory, misplaced product, damaged merchandise, pricing concerns, and safety hazards; report or resolve concerns promptly.Support daily operational goals and priorities assigned by store management.Maintain clean aisles, counters, displays, work areas, and customer-facing spaces.Product Knowledge and TeamworkContinually develop knowledge of lumber, hardware, tools, building materials, and related products and services.Stay informed about new products, technology, industry practices, and relevant competitor offerings.Share accurate information and communicate effectively with other sales associates, the yard, receiving, delivery, and management teams.Participate in meetings, training, and coaching and apply feedback to improve performance.Contribute to a respectful, dependable, and team-focused work environment.Perform other related duties as assigned to support customers and store operations.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThis position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.Ability to frequently bend, reach, stretch, squat, crouch, kneel, climb, and work in other positions necessary to stock and assist customers.Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds, with assistance or equipment when required by safe-work practices.Ability to safely climb and descend ladders and step stools.Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather and temperature conditions.Ability to communicate with customers and coworkers and to use store systems and equipment necessary for the role.TravelRegular travel is not required.
