Job Summary: The Retail Pharmacy Technician is responsible for providing technical support under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist in the outpatient/retail pharmacy. Duties include preparing take-home medications, compounding, inventory management, utilizing pharmacy equipment and technology, performing drop-off and pick-up window duties, and quality control tasks. Additionally, the technician will participate in training new technicians and pharmacy students, and deliver medications bedside to patients.

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:
  1. Renew routine/maintenance medication requests via telephonic, fax, patient site, or e-prescription queues. Manage related administrative tasks such as faxing, filing, mailing, and documenting in medical records.
  2. Respond to formulary and medication assistance inquiries, prioritizing needs effectively and safely.
  3. Assist with the BIDMC transition of care program.
  4. Assist with medication reconciliations.
  5. Investigate and resolve prescription issues, communicating directly with patients for clarification.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Massachusetts Registered Pharmacy Technician license preferred; or Registration as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Certified Pharmacy Technician.
  • 1-3 years related experience in healthcare or retail pharmacy.
  • Knowledge of prior-authorization workflows, payer relations, prescription claims adjudication, and reimbursement procedures.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with diverse professionals.
  • Proficiency with computer systems, including web applications and Microsoft Office suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with prior authorizations.
