Job summary

Mount Carmel Health System is seeking a Certified Pharmacy Technician to support pharmacists in timely, accurate medication provision. This role involves unit-dose dispensing, IV admixtures, inventory control, and billing, under direct supervision of a pharmacist.

Responsibilities include assisting with purchasing, staffing for technicians, and training new hires, with emphasis on maintaining compliance and patient safety in a hospital setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Approved Pharmacy Technician Certification and active registration with Ohio State Board of Pharmacy.
• Previous pharmacy technician experience is desirable.
• Strong communication skills and basic computer keyboard proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Assist in filling orders/prescriptions.
• Prepare intravenous admixtures including chemotherapy using aseptic technique.
• Prepare and restock medications for automated dispensing cabinets and perform cabinet maintenance.
• Assist in inventory control, verify orders, rotate stock, and manage expiration dates.
• Prepare sterile products, label medications, and maintain required records.
• Assist with billing and ensure correct patient charges.
• Prioritize workload and act independently where pharmacist judgement is not required.
• Maintain regulatory readiness and compliance in the department.

Position Purpose

Certified Pharmacy Tech will assist the pharmacist in assuring timely and accurate provision of medications to patients. Routine technician functions are performed under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. These functions may include unit dose dispensing, intravenous admixing, inventory control, record keeping and billing, and use of equipment and automated technology.

• Additional responsibilities include special projects as assigned by managers, assist with purchasing, develop staffing patterns and assignments for other technicians, prioritize work responsibilities, and precept and train newly hired technicians.

What You Will Do

• Assists in the filling of orders/ prescriptions
• Prepares intravenous admixtures including chemotherapy; using aseptic technique in compliance with regulatory standards
• Prepares and restocks medications for automated dispensing cabinets Conducts maintenance on automated dispensing cabinets; Resolves issues/errors (i.e. misfills; drawer recovery)
• Assists in inventory control by verifying and putting away orders by the end of the shift each day; assures proper stock rotation, reviews stock for proper storage and current expiration dates, and identifies drugs and non-drug stocks needing to be reordered;
• Prepares sterile products; properly labels medications and maintains records as required by department Policy and Procedures and state and federal law
• Assists the department with proper billing of patients and other units
• Properly prioritizes workload; demonstrates responsibility and ability to act independently in areas not requiring the professional judgment of a registered pharmacist
• Maintains personal compliance with continuous regulatory readiness; assists in maintaining departmental compliance with continuous regulatory readiness

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: High school graduation or equivalent
• Licensure / Certification: Approved Pharmacy Technician Certification. Active registration as a Certified Tech with Ohio State Board of Pharmacy.
• Experience: Previous pharmacy technician experience is desirable
• Effective Communication Skills
• Basic knowledge of computers with demonstrated keyboard skills
