Job summary

Greater Valley Health Center in Kalispell, MT is seeking a full-time Retail Pharmacy Technician (Certified). You will assist in dispensing prescriptions, maintain stock, and communicate with patients and physicians. Requires MT license and national certification, plus English proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately preparing prescriptions by retrieving, pouring, counting, labelling, and/or reconstituting prescription medications with attention to program rules (e.g. 340B).
  • Handles hazardous medications.
  • Enter patient and prescription data into the pharmacy software.
  • Communicate with physicians, patients and insurers; verify patient identifiers.
  • Process third-party rejections and resolve issues.
  • Perform inventory control and restocking duties.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician national certification and State of Montana Pharmacy Technician License.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English.
Experience
  • One to two years prior experience in a pharmacy or healthcare environment is preferred.

Main Duties and Responsibilities of the Role

These duties are the essential functions and are not all-inclusive of all duties that the incumbent performs.

  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled.
  • Accurately preparing prescriptions by retrieving, pouring, counting, labelling, and/or reconstituting prescription medications paying careful attention to specific programs and regulations (e.g. 340B).
  • Handles hazardous medications.
  • Accurately entering all patient and prescription information into the pharmacy software.
  • Communicating with physicians, patients and third-parties, such as insurers; always verifying 2 patient identifiers.
  • Answers phone calls promptly.
  • Processing third-party rejections, communicating and resolving issues.
  • Performs inventory control and management, including ordering, unpacking and organizing incoming merchandise, sorting items that require special handling, perpetual inventory counts, 340B audits, restocking shelves, removing outdated drugs, preparing outdated/unneeded drugs for return/disposal.
  • Maintains and files records of dispensing and receiving (invoices).
  • Helps maintain orderly, clean environment in the pharmacy, including cleanliness of pharmacy stock and supplies.
  • Provides completed orders to customers.
  • Properly processing Medicare/Medicaid Durable Medical Equipment (DME) claims.
  • Properly processing pseudoephedrine sales.
  • Solves routine problems on own.
  • Checking refrigerator and freezer temperatures daily.
  • Working as a team and communicating clearly.
  • Helping customers locate over-the-counter products.
  • Handling customer problems/ concerns in a calm manner and referring them to the pharmacist accordingly.
  • Assists the pharmacist in delivering high-quality pharmaceutical care.
  • Maintain an attitude and philosophy consistent with GVHC standards. Be the 'face of the pharmacy'.
  • Practices within the scope of education, training, and personal capabilities.
  • Complying with established procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Follows federal, state and local legal guidelines; follows license criteria when licensure applies (ie: immunizations).
  • Maintains confidentiality, HIPAA, & OSHA compliance.
  • Performs other duties as needed and directed.
Working Environment

Work is performed in a pharmacy setting with computer/phone work and moderate noise. Standing, bending, sitting, lifting, stooping required.

  • Required to work at both Sykes Kalispell and Sykes Columbia Falls pharmacy locations weekly.
  • Required to work on a rotating schedule for Saturday shifts at Sykes Pharmacy Kalispell.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to bend, reach, climb, and squat frequently.
  • Ability to lift, push or pull a minimum of 25 lbs.
