Job summary

Indiana University Health seeks a Pharmacy Technician to support the pharmacy department under pharmacist supervision. Responsibilities include inventory management, prep, distribution, compounding, and medication histories, with entry of refill orders and preparation for pharmacist check.

Qualifications include a high school diploma, Indiana Pharmacy Tech-In Training or license, national certification within a year, and strong math and communication skills.

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Indiana Pharmacy Tech-In Training OR Indiana Pharmacy Technician License OR intern/extern license if enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy.
• Pharmacy Technician National Certification required within one year of hire (unless enrolled in accredited program).
• No criminal history related to handling drugs.
• Must have strong mathematical calculation skills.
• Must learn basic pharmacy technician skills under supervision.
• Must learn effective written and communication skills.
• Must learn customer service skills.
• Must be proficient typing and using Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Under pharmacist supervision, supports inventory, preparation, distribution, compounding, and medication histories.
• Assist with medication processing including taking refill orders and entering orders into the system.
• Prepare medications for pharmacist check and for disbursement or delivery.
• Handle supplies, stock items, maintain records, and distribute supplies.
• Assist in bulk compounding and IV solution preparation.

Description:

Under pharmacist supervision, supports the pharmacy department in one or more of the following areas: inventory, preparation, distribution, compounding, processing of medications and supplies, specialty medications, and medication histories. Assists with all functions required for medication processing including answering telephones, taking refill orders, entering orders into system, preparing the medication for pharmacist check, preparing medications for disbursement/shipment/delivery. Key job duties may consist of handling supplies, stocking prepackaged items, maintaining inventory, delivering supplies, maintaining records, distributing supplies. May assist in bulk compounding and preparation of I.V. solutions. Works with pharmacy staff to minimize the potential for medication errors.

• High School Diploma/GED is required.
• Requires Indiana Pharmacy Tech-In Training OR Indiana Pharmacy Technician License OR intern/extern license if enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy.
• Requires Pharmacy Technician National Certification within one year of hire unless enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy or enrolled in or graduated from an ASHP/ACPE accredited Pharmacy Technician training program.
• Requires the absence of criminal history related to the ability to work with drugs.
• Requires strong mathematical calculation skills.
• Requires ability to learn basic pharmacy technician skills in assigned areas and work under close supervision or under clearly defined procedures.
• Requires ability to learn effective written and communication skills.
• Requires ability to learn and execute customer services skills.
• Requires basic proficiency typing and using Microsoft office applications.
