Job summary

BJC HealthCare in St. Louis is seeking patient-centered Pharmacy Technician – Retail 1 to join our pediatric-focused team. The role encompasses clerical duties, prescription processing, cash handling, and inventory management in a hospital-affiliated retail setting.

Under direct supervision of a staff pharmacist, you will enter prescription information, assist with dispensing, and support the pharmacy IT systems. Prior experience is welcome but not required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Pharmacy tech experience preferred but not required.
• Ability to operate the pharmacy IT system and POS.
• Experience with inventory management and basic compounding is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Complete clerical duties: filing prescriptions, sending/receiving tubes and faxes, and mail handling.
• Enter customer, insurance and prescription information; process prescription transfers.
• Sell prescriptions at POS, handle cash, manage payment exceptions and cash reconciliation.
• Order and manage inventory, stock shelves, rotate/remove expired products and perform cycle counts.
• Perform data entry and assist with product dispensing (manual and automated).

Role Purpose

The Pharmacy Technician – Retail 1, under the direct supervision of a staff pharmacist and according to standard procedures, performs general clerical and support duties for the department. This position is also responsible for entering information into the pharmacy IT system, selling prescriptions, managing inventory and completing prescription workflow steps.

Responsibilities

• Completes clerical duties, to include sending and receiving tubes & faxes, filing prescriptions, processing mail & courier prescriptions.
• Enters customer, insurance and prescription information and completes prescription transfers.
• Sells prescriptions (POS system), handles cash, manages payment exceptions and reconciles cash.
• Orders and manages inventory (drug and non-drug); stocks shelves; rotates, organizes, and removes expired product; performs cycle counts and returns to stock.
• Completes data entry, contact manager, product dispensing (manual and automated via Parata and RxSafe), and basic compounding.
