What is a Retail Parts Pro?

A Retail Parts Pro is a professional-level sales position supporting advanced functions within the DIY automotive parts business. This role requires expert knowledge of store systems, automotive systems, and parts. Key responsibilities include advanced identification, troubleshooting, and project assistance for DIY customers, sourcing parts from various channels, and maintaining in-depth knowledge of store inventory and processes. The position is full-time.

Primary Responsibilities
  1. Provide GAS2 selling experience for DIY customer visits and phone inquiries.
  2. Achieve personal and store sales goals and service objectives.
  3. Manage DIY services such as battery installation, testing, and wiper installation.
  4. Maintain high standards of customer service and store appearance.
  5. Perform key holder duties including task assignment, safety, and opening/closing responsibilities.
Secondary Responsibilities
  1. Assist with store inventory processes, including truck put away, cycle counts, and back stock management.
  2. Maintain store cleanliness, including floors, bathrooms, and parking lot.
  3. Provide DIY services as needed.
Success Factors

  • Ability to locate and stock parts efficiently.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures.
  • Proficiency with inventory systems and store equipment.
  • Parts and automotive system knowledge.
  • Operation of POS and parts lookup systems.

  • ASE P2 certification or equivalent.
  • Strong solution, project, and product recommendation skills.
  • Advanced parts sourcing and lookup abilities.
  • Effective selling skills tailored to DIY customers.
Essential Job Skills
  • Working knowledge of automotive systems and diagnostics (engine, suspension, brakes, electronic, exhaust, etc.).
  • Effective communication in English; Spanish is a plus.
  • Ability to interpret safety rules, manuals, parts catalogs, and diagrams.
  • Completion of Parts Knowledge Assessment.
  • Basic math skills for measurements and calculations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Flexibility to work days, evenings, and weekends.
Prior Experience

3-5 years of automotive parts experience with proven sales ability and customer fulfillment experience.

Education and Licenses

Must hold a valid driver’s license; ASE certification preferred but not required.
