Job Summary

PetSmart’s Process Lead (Retail Operations Supervisor) shares responsibility for driving operational excellence in our stores while upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. This role involves merchandising, inventory management, pet care operations, opening and/or closing the store, overseeing associates, and maintaining a safe and organized environment.

Principal Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

People Leadership:

• Support and guide sales associates in merchandise handling, including training on product knowledge and presentation standards.
• Facilitate the associate experience and support development through training, onboarding, mentoring, coaching, and performance feedback.
• Delegate and validate completion of daily tasks.
• Lead and supervise associates when acting as the leader on duty.
• Address and resolve associate complaints and grievances.
• Recognize and celebrate associates to boost engagement.

Store Operations and Overall Store Experience:

• Execute merchandise strategies to optimize sales, including receiving products, product placement, displays, and promotions.
• Manage inventory levels, conduct audits, analyze sales trends, and recommend stock replenishments and markdowns.
• Maintain accurate inventory records and address discrepancies.
• Operate POS systems and handle cash transactions accurately.
• Ensure store standards and compliance with policies and procedures.
• Participate in opening and closing procedures to uphold brand standards.
• Perform monthly cycle counts and resolve discrepancies.
• Maintain pet care standards, including cleaning, feeding, and caring for new and sick pets.
• Ensure positive customer experiences with online orders and pet care.
• Act immediately on any sick or injured pets, including transportation to veterinary services.
• Follow policies for new pet arrivals, ensuring health and quarantine protocols are followed.

Qualifications:

• At least 2 years of retail supervisory experience in a customer-focused environment.
• Full-time availability with flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Proficiency in computer applications.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and maintain composure.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Supervisory Responsibility:

• No direct reports but expected to support and guide other associates.
• Provide performance feedback to supervisor.
• Act as the leader in the absence of other leaders, supervising associates and managing tasks.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

• Stand, walk, climb ladders, and handle objects; reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear; vision requirements include depth perception.
• Lift/move up to 50 pounds regularly; team lift more than 100 pounds occasionally.
• Work may involve exposure to mechanical parts, pet hair, and live animals; noise levels may vary.
