Farmstand Retail Manager Sought
Land's Sake Farm, Weston, MA

About Land's Sake

Land’s Sake Farm is a non‑profit community farm, connecting people to the land to build community and inspire lifelong stewardship. Our farmstand is the heart of that mission — offering our own farm‑grown produce alongside products from other local farms and small businesses.

Position Overview

Land's Sake is seeking an experienced, community-minded Retail Manager to lead day‑to‑day operations of our farmstand. The Retail Manager oversees a team of both seasonal and year‑round employees, manages inventory and vendor relationships, and is responsible for the financial and operational health of the stand — including driving toward its annual revenue goal of $1,000,000. This is a hands‑on leadership role suited to someone who thrives in a fast‑paced retail environment and is passionate about local food systems. The farmstand is also the front door to Land's Sake, the place most people first encounter the farm, and the Retail Manager leads a team culture in which every visitor is welcomed, learns the story of the farm and its farmers, and is invited into deeper engagement with our community.

The farmstand is open year‑round, 6 days per week, with limited hours in January and February. Hours may vary by season.

Retail Operations
  • Oversee daily operations of the farmstand, ensuring a welcoming, well‑organized, and efficient shopping experience
  • Develop and maintain staff schedules to ensure appropriate coverage during operating hours, including seasonal adjustments
  • Supervise, train, and support a team fostering a positive and accountable team culture
  • Maintain merchandising standards, product displays, maintenance of the Farmstand resources (such as freezers, appliances in conjunction with facilities management) and site cleanliness
Inventory & Vendor Management
  • Manage inventory levels for all farmstand products: farm‑grown produce and products from local vendors
  • Coordinate with the farm production team to plan for seasonal harvest volumes and product availability
  • Support the seasonal CSA program as necessary
  • Build and maintain relationships with local vendors and producers, prioritizing products that reflect Land’s Sake’s place, values and local farming community.
  • Monitor product freshness and quality, minimizing waste through effective ordering and rotation
Financial Management
  • Manage day‑to‑day financial operations of the farmstand, including cash handling, POS reconciliation, and deposits
  • Maintain tracking of all purchase orders made for farmstand and coordinate with accounting as necessary
  • Drive performance toward the farmstand's annual revenue goal of approximately $1,000,000, tracking sales against targets and adjusting strategy as needed
  • Track sales performance and prepare regular reports for the Executive Director
  • support pricing decisions in coordination with the Executive Director and farm production team
  • Assist in developing and managing the farmstand's operating budget
Community & Mission
  • Lead a culture of hospitality in which every customer is greeted, engaged, and invited to connect with the farm — its fields, farmers, history, and programs (CSA, volunteering, education, events)
  • Train and model for staff how to share the farm's story, including our commitment to donating over one-third of what we grow to neighbors facing hunger
  • Serve as the stand's connection point to the wider organization, coordinating with farm, education, and communications staff so the stand reflects what's happening across the farm
Qualifications
  • 3 to 5 years of retail management experience required
  • Experience with inventory management systems and practices (e.g. Square)
  • Financial management experience, including cash handling, reconciliation, and basic budgeting
  • Strong leadership and staff management skills
  • Excellent organizational and written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends
  • Interest in local food systems, sustainable agriculture, or community non‑profit work strongly preferred
  • Customer service oriented
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50lbs
  • Demonstrated ability to build a warm, welcoming customer culture and to coach staff toward it
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with point-of-sale (POS) systems
  • Background in agriculture, farming, or food retail
  • Marketing or social media experience
  • Comfortable using technology
  • Experience in a mission-driven or community-facing retail setting (farmstand, co‑op, museum shop, etc.)
Compensation
  • Salary (55,000-68,000, commensurate with experience)
  • Free produce from farm and discounts on farmstand goods
  • Two weeks paid vacation, paid holidays
  • Sick time
  • Health care benefits with 75% employer contribution at the individual tier
