Job summary

North 40 Outfitters is seeking a Controller to join our Home Office team in Great Falls, MT. You will lead day-to-day accounting, oversee close, general ledger, inventory, and cash management, and partner with leadership to maintain strong internal controls.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Accounting/Finance and progressive accounting experience in retail or inventory-heavy environments; CPA/CMA preferred. Some travel to North 40 locations may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
• Significant progressive accounting experience, including financial close, general ledger, reconciliations, financial reporting, and internal controls.
• Experience leading accounting operations within a retail, multi-location, inventory-intensive, or high-transaction-volume environment strongly preferred.
• Experience overseeing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes and producing accurate, timely financial statements.
• Experience maintaining accounting policies, reconciliations, documentation, approval controls, and segregation of duties.
• Strong understanding of inventory accounting, cost of goods sold, gross margin, and the financial reporting requirements of a retail organization.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day accounting functions and ensure integrity and accuracy of financial operations.
• Oversee financial close, reporting, general ledger activity, and internal controls across multiple locations.
• Manage inventory accounting, cash management, accounts payable and receivable, fixed assets, and tax compliance.
• Coordinate audits, external reviews, and respond to inquiries from tax authorities and regulators.
• Provide financial analysis and guidance to leadership and store operations to drive decision-making.
