Job summary

The Wall Street Journal seeks a bureau chief to lead our coverage of the retail sector from New York. You will manage a team of reporters, guide daily coverage and jump on breaking news to elevate stories.

You will edit stories, help develop features, and drive data-informed planning with audience, social, programming and strategy colleagues to maximize reach. Strong editors with financial coverage background preferred.

Qualifications

• At least 8 years of experience managing reporters or editors at a high level.
• Strong line editing and headline-writing skills, with a focus on finance or business topics.
• Experience guiding reporters and producers to develop and execute coverage ideas.

Responsibilities

• Edit stories;
• Help develop new features
• Incorporate audience data into story planning and work with social, programming and strategy colleagues to ensure maximum reach.

You Have

• At least 8 years of experience managing reporters at a high level
• Experience working with reporters or producers to develop ideas and coverage;
• Excellent line editing and headline-writing skills, ideally with a specialty in financial topics and service journalism;
• High standards and an ironclad commitment to accuracy;
• Experience working on digital platforms and new forms of storytelling;
• Coaching skills on and off-deadline, and the ability to keep teams focused and positive.
