Overview

The Retail Assistant Store Manager at Office Depot, Inc. plays a pivotal role in driving total sales and service growth within our stores. Your enthusiasm and expertise will help us create and nurture a vibrant sales culture, enhance our store's visual and merchandising standards, freight, and logistics activities, and prioritize client satisfaction. The Assistant Manager will help lead a customer-centric environment, engage with the local community, and foster a positive culture aligned with the Office Depot 5C values of Customer, Commitment, Change, Caring, and Creativity. This role is considered a 'Key Carrier' and a leader on duty. Candidates must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and perform opening and closing responsibilities as part of External Key Carrier duties.

Primary Responsibilities
  1. Sales and Service Excellence:
    1. Partner with management to create memorable customer experiences.
    2. Implement Office Depot selling techniques and sales training.
    3. Assist in training and developing associates to foster a sales-focused environment.
    4. Deliver exceptional customer service and product expertise.
  2. Operational Efficiency:
    1. Process merchandise accurately, adhering to standards and deadlines.
    2. Identify and implement process improvements to reduce waste and inefficiencies.
    3. Support the General Manager in coaching staff for performance improvement.
    4. Contribute to sales and profitability through various initiatives.
  3. Leadership and Team Development:
    1. Provide ongoing guidance and training to store associates.
    2. Conduct training on the business model and customer service offerings.
    3. Observe, coach, and give feedback to build trust and loyalty.
    4. Evaluate associate performance and competencies independently.
    5. Perform other necessary responsibilities.
  4. External Key Carrier Responsibilities:
    1. Ensure safety and security during manager absences.
    2. Perform opening and closing duties, including alarm and cash handling.
    3. Maintain loss prevention compliance.
    4. Fulfill Key Carrier responsibilities.
Education and Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s preferred.
  • Related fields: Business, Marketing, Retail.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience; retail and supervisory experience preferred.
  • Computer skills for accessing information and completing tasks.
  • Experience with Logistics and Freight.
  • Strong selling, coaching, and leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and execute instructions efficiently.
  • Adaptability and results-driven mindset.
  • Customer-focused, positive, and action-oriented.
