Overview

The Retail Assistant Store Manager at Office Depot, Inc. plays a pivotal role in driving total sales and service growth within our stores. Your enthusiasm and expertise will help us create and nurture a vibrant sales culture, enhance our store's visual and merchandising standards, freight, and logistics activities, and prioritize unparalleled client satisfaction. The Assistant Manager will help lead a customer-centric environment, engage with the local community, and foster a positive culture aligned with the Office Depot 5C values of Customer, Commitment, Change, Caring, and Creativity. The Retail Assistant Store Manager will be a “Key Carrier” and considered a leader on duty. All Retail Assistant Store Managers must be able to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays. Full-Time Assistant Managers must also perform External Key Carrier responsibilities, including opening and closing the store.

Primary Responsibilities

  1. Sales and Service Excellence:
    • Partner with management to drive memorable customer experiences and satisfaction.
    • Ensure the execution of Office Depot selling techniques and sales training.
    • Assist in training and developing associates to foster a sales-focused environment.
    • Deliver exceptional customer service and product expertise.
  2. Operational Efficiency:
    • Process merchandise accurately, adhering to procedures and visual standards.
    • Identify and implement process improvements to reduce waste and inefficiencies.
    • Support the General Manager in coaching associates for performance improvement.
    • Contribute to increasing sales and profitability through various initiatives.
  3. Leadership and Team Development:
    • Guide and train store associates, including Print Services staff.
    • Conduct training on the business model and service offerings.
    • Observe, coach, and provide feedback to enhance proficiency and build trust.
    • Exercise independent judgment on performance assessments and certifications.
  4. External Key Carrier Responsibilities:
    • Ensure safety and security during manager absences.
    • Perform opening and closing duties, including alarm system management and cash handling.
    • Maintain loss prevention compliance.
    • Fulfill External Key Carrier duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent; Bachelors preferred.
  • Experience in Business, Marketing, Retail, or related fields.
  • 1-3 years of related experience; retail, sales, or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with logistics and freight.
  • Strong selling skills and leadership abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and execute instructions efficiently.
  • Adaptability and results-driven mindset.
  • Customer-focused, positive, engaging, and passionate about the brand.

Additional Information
