Job summary

The Magic House, St. Louis Children's Museum in Kirkwood is seeking a part-time Museum Shop Associate to support daily operations and web retail sales.

You will greet guests, assist with sales, and help maintain a welcoming, well-organized shop environment. Responsibilities include overseeing stock, processing online orders, opening and closing procedures, cash reconciliation, and providing excellent customer service.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years retail experience in a high-volume environment with strong customer service.
• Cash handling, inventory control and merchandising knowledge.
• Proficient in POS systems and software supporting retail operations.
• Excellent customer service: friendly, helpful and patient.
• Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to multi-task with high output, detail and accuracy.
• Strong organizational and time-management abilities.

Responsibilities

• Greet and sell to Museum guests, modeling a professional demeanor.
• Oversee ordering, stocking, and care/appearance of the Museum Shop.
• Ensure store procedures are followed.
• Open/close procedures with cash reconciliation to POS reports.
• Manage online retail sales including management, fulfillment, and customer service.
• Assist with inventory, including an annual physical inventory.
• Alert the Director of Procurement to inventory shortages.
• Participate in trainings and perform other duties as assigned.

Reports To: Director of Procurement and Special Projects

Job Purpose: Supports the day-to-day operations for the Museum Shop and web retail sales

Time Allocation: Weekdays and weekends

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Greet and sell to Museum guests while serving as a role model to other part-time Museum Shop employees;
• Oversee ordering, stocking, and the care and appearance of the Museum Shop;
• Ensure store procedures are followed;
• Perform daily opening and closing procedures including accurate accounting and reconciliation of money and shop sales to the POS reports;
• Manage online retail sales including management, order fulfillment, and customer service;
• Assist with inventory, including an annual physical inventory of all retail products;
• Alert the Director of Procurement of inventory shortages;
• Participate in trainings as required
• Perform other duties as assigned;

Qualifications

• Experience: One to two years of retail experience required, preferably in a high-volume environment with a strong focus on retail operations and exceptional customer service.
• Knowledge of cash handling, inventory control, and merchandising
• Competence in using POS and systems that support retail operations
• Excellent customer service skills-helpful, friendly, and patient attitude
• Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to multi-task with a high level of output, detail, and accuracy
• Demonstrated excellence in organization and time management skills
• Ability to work effectively as a team member, as well as independently
• Demonstrates good judgment with the ability to solve problems by weighing and evaluating options
