Job summary

Austin Habitat for Humanity is seeking a ReStore Driver to safely pick up and transport donated materials, deliver to the ReStore, and support receiving/warehouse operations. You will represent the organization with donors and customers.

You will operate our vehicles in accordance with safety laws, perform pre-trip inspections, load and unload donations, assist volunteers, and help maintain clean, organized work areas. A valid Texas driver's license is required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license with a clean driving record required.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Familiarity with GPS routing or delivery scheduling is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate AHFH vehicles to pick up and transport donated materials according to schedule.
  • Load, secure, transport, and unload donations without damaging donor property.
  • Conduct daily vehicle inspections before use and perform safety checks.
  • Communicate professionally with donors to confirm pickup details and provide receipts.
  • Follow traffic laws and organizational safety policies; avoid unnecessary phone use while driving.

Job description

The ReStore Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient pickup, transport, and delivery of donated materials for Austin Habitat for Humanity ReStores.

This role provides excellent customer and donor service, operates AHFH vehicles in accordance with safety and traffic laws, and supports ReStore receiving and warehouse operations.

General Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate AHFH vehicles to pick up and transport donated materials according to scheduled routes
  • Load, secure, transport, and unload donations in a manner that prevents damage to donor property and materials
  • Conduct daily vehicle inspections prior to use, including fuel level and safety checks
  • Communicate professionally with donors to confirm pickup details and provide donation receipts
  • Follow all traffic laws, organizational policies, and safe‑driving practices; cell phone use while driving is prohibited except as permitted by law
  • Assist ReStore receiving and warehouse teams with unloading and staging donations
  • Oversee and provide guidance to volunteers assisting with donation pickups and unloading
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned vehicles, docks, and work areas
  • Participate in safety meetings and proactively report unsafe conditions or incidents
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of ReStore operations
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Adhere to all AHFH safety policies and procedures, including OSHA‑related guidelines
  • Operate vehicles, equipment, and tools safely and only as trained
  • Maintain situational awareness around moving vehicles, equipment, donors, volunteers, and staff
  • Promptly report accidents, injuries, near‑misses, or unsafe conditions
  • Support a safe environment for donors, volunteers, customers, and coworkers at all times.
Qualifications

Required Experience

  • Qualified candidates must possess strong problem-solving skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced team environment, and the ability to multi-task.
  • This individual must be detail-oriented and able to work independently.
  • Must be able to deal with all kinds of individuals and remain consistent in keeping a professional demeanor.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule around store needs.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license with a clean driving record required.
  • Basic familiarity with GPS routing or delivery scheduling

Preferred Experience

  • Previous experience driving box trucks or similar commercial vehicles in a professional setting
  • Experience safely loading, securing, and transporting furniture, appliances, or building materials
  • Familiarity with warehouse, donation center, or retail operations
  • Prior experience working in environments with volunteers or the general public
  • Knowledge of basic vehicle safety inspections and safe‑driving practices

Experience following workplace safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment (PPE)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This role requires regular physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials, as well as frequent entry and exit from vehicles. The employee must be able to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance.

Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, traffic, noise, dust, and construction or donated materials.

For safety reasons, employees in this role are required to wear closed‑toe, reinforced footwear (such as steel‑toe or composite‑toe shoes) while performing driving, loading, unloading, and warehouse‑related duties.

Additional personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required depending on assigned tasks.
