Job summary

Freeborn County is seeking a Probation Officer to supervise adult offenders on Court-ordered supervision, with a specialized caseload in domestic violence and person crimes. Under the department Director, you will prepare investigative and analytical reports to aid the Court and treatment placements.

You will administer risk/needs assessments, design supervision and rehabilitative plans, and testify in court when needed. A four-year degree and 1–3 years of related experience are required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of criminal justice and related social science disciplines.
• Ability to communicate effectively, in writing and testimony in court.
• Familiarity with corrections data systems and reporting requirements.

Responsibilities

• Prepare comprehensive investigative and analytical reports concerning offenders.
• Complete investigations into violations of Court supervision; provide recommendations for Court use.
• Conduct bail studies and formulate release recommendations.
• Administer risk/needs assessments and develop supervision plans with rehabilitative components.
• Testify in court and provide recommendations regarding violations and sentences.
• Enroll and supervise offenders in community service programs.
• Interview victims and collect restitution information for Court use.
• Facilitate domestic programming and cognitive skills programs.
• Exercise arrest authority when necessary within legal guidelines.
• Perform drug testing following proper chain of custody.
