A leading waste and recycling company in Portland seeks a Restoration Technician responsible for cleaning homeless encampments. The role involves handling biohazards, ensuring safety compliance, and engaging with the community. POSITION OVERVIEW
The Restoration Technician’s primary responsibility is the specialized cleaning of homeless encampments. In addition to picking up trash, needles, and other biohazards, the Restoration Technician will be expected to complete training in de-escalation, blood borne pathogens, CPR, and basic first aid. The Restoration Technician is also expected to be polite, diplomatic, and professional always, and treat all persons with dignity and respect.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Use of proper PPE
· Comply with the Mandatory Storage Policy
· Follow all safety protocols, ensuring compliance with company, city, and environmental regulations.
· Work collaboratively with local agencies, law enforcement, and city officials as needed.
· Handle personal belongings at the encampment in accordance with city policies and procedures for lost or stored items.
· Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of work areas, vehicles, and equipment.
· Identify and report hazards, illegal dumping, or environmental concerns to appropriate personnel.
· Ensure safe driving by paying attention to the road
· Proper storage and handling of all work-related equipment such as PPE, tools, and road signs
· Engage with persons using de-escalation training
· Collect, contain, and dispose of all biohazards in accordance with local regulations
· Be always safe and aware
· Working outside in all weather conditions
· Placing road work signs
· Performing other duties as assigned
KEY COMPETENCIES
· Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and working in outdoor conditions.

REQUIRED & DESIRED EXPERIENCE
· Ability to be trained in and learn skills in De-escalation, CPR, Bloodborne Pathogens, First Aid required
· Experience working outdoors highly preferred
· Experience working with people in sensitive situations preferred.
· Bilingual Spanish preferred.
PHYSICAL, ENVIRONMENTAL, TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
· Ability to lift 40+ pounds repeatedly
· Primarily outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
· Exposure to potentially hazardous materials and environments.
· Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
· May involve interactions with individuals experiencing homelessness, requiring professionalism and discretion.
