Job summary

21c Museum Hotels in Durham, NC is seeking a friendly Restaurant Host to welcome guests as they arrive, seat them, and deliver the first impression of the dining experience. You will manage guest flow, answer phones, and coordinate with servers to ensure smooth seating.

The role requires excellent English communication, punctuality, a neat appearance, and the ability to work flexible hours including nights and weekends. Experience with OpenTable is preferred and background checks are required.

Qualifications

• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be able to greet and seat guests with a friendly, professional demeanor.
• Be punctual and maintain a neat, professional appearance.
• Demonstrates enthusiasm for 21c and its hospitality standards.
• Experience with OpenTable is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet guests at the door or on the phone and guide them to seating.
• Maintain a positive, friendly attitude with guests and team members at all times.
• Know at least 3 appetizers, 3 entrees, and 3 desserts and explain them to guests.
• Report to work on time and be ready for scheduled shifts.
• Maintain a clean, orderly appearance of the service area.
• Fill in for multiple positions as needed.
• Provide prompt, accurate reports of income during shifts.

Dining Room Manager & General Manager

General Purpose:

The restaurant Host is the first employee to interact with arriving guests as they enter the restaurant. It is the job of the Host to greet arriving guests, welcome them into the establishment and seat them. The guests receive their first impression of the restaurant in their exchange with the Host.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Understands he/she is the first impression of guests whether at the door or on the phone and behaves in accordance with high standards set by restaurant reputation.
• Maintains a positive, friendly attitude with co-workers and guests at all time.
• Knows at least 3 appetizers, 3 entrees, and 3 desserts and can explain them to a guest/caller.
• Reports to work on time and ready to work scheduled shift.
• Maintains a clean, orderly appearance of the restaurant service area.
• Fills in for multiple positions as needed.
• Delivers a prompt, accurate report of all income received during shifts worked.

Qualifications:

• Able to work flexible hours (nights, weekends).
• Responsible, dependable, punctual, adaptable.
• Detail oriented, behaves calmly and recognizes order within chaos.
• Superior communication skills; must be able to speak, read, and understand English.
• Clean and professional appearance.
• Basic math skills.

• Must pass a background check.

Education/Formal Training:

• High school or equivalent education required.
• Experience with Open Table preferred.
