Qualifications

Overview

The Medical Respite program allows individuals who are experiencing homelessness a safe place to rest and recuperative from a medical condition. While participants focus on improving their health, they can also work on addressing other needs like housing and benefits. The Respite Community Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the respite community during an assigned shift. This includes supervising and supporting Respite Community Assistants, ensuring resident safety, comfort, and compliance with respite community policies. The Supervisor manages staffing, coordinates schedules, provides training, and ensures smooth transitions between shifts. Additionally, they support resident admissions, maintain facility cleanliness, coordinate meals andlaundry, oversee safety procedures, and address any resident or staff concerns. This role is essential in maintaining a supportive and secure environment while ensuring operational efficiency 24/7. The Respite Community Supervisor will work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team to deliver comprehensive, client-centered and trauma-informed integrated services.The posted hours and location for this position will begin after successfully completing the 30-day training period, which will be held at various locations. Training will take place Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Fosters a community of safety, inclusion, and healing aligned with the Standards for Medical Respite Care, Guiding Principles for Medical Respite Care, and The Framework for Medical Respite Care established by the National
  • Institute for Medical Respite Care (a special program of the National Health Care for the Homeless Council).
  • Supervise Assigned Shift Operations: Oversee all day-to-day activities during your assigned shift (meals, laundry, activities, etc.), ensuring respite community operations run smoothly and in accordance with program policies.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for all residents and Respite Community Assistants.
  • Supervise Respite Community Assistants: Manage the Respite Community Assistants during assigned shift, ensuring all duties are completed efficiently. Provide guidance, training, and support to ensure compliance with respite community policies and procedures.
  • Actively participates in weekly case conferencing, team meetings, and process groups.
  • Staff Coverage & Coordination: Handle Respite Community Assistants call‑ins, schedule adjustments, and coverage, ensuring the respite community remains adequately staffed.
  • Coordinate with other respite community supervisors to ensure smooth transitions and continuity across shifts.
  • Resident Management: Ensure all incoming residents are properly welcomed, assigned to appropriate beds, and given necessary resources (e.g., hygiene packets, welcome packet). Educate residents on respite community policies, conduct, and emergency procedures.
  • Safety & Security: Supervise Respite Community Assistants in ensuring the safety and security of residents, staff, and respite community property. Respond to incidents or emergencies in a timely and professional manner.
  • Documentation: Oversee the accurate and timely completion of incident reports, logs, and any other necessary documentation by Respite Community Assistants. Communicate any issues, violations, or safety concerns to the Respite community Manager and leadership team.
  • Meal & Laundry Coordination: Ensure meals and laundry services are coordinated during your assigned shift.
  • Oversee rounds and respond to any immediate resident needs with the assistance of Respite Community Assistants.
  • Activities: Assist with any activities, including the prep and cleaning of any activity.
  • Regulate Resident Belongings: Ensure Respite Community Assistants regulate personal belongings appropriately and maintain respite community cleanliness and order.
  • Staff Performance: Provide performance feedback to Respite Community Assistants, resolving any issues or concerns regarding staff behavior or performance. Ensure staff are fulfilling their duties in accordance with respite community standards.
  • Budget Oversight: Assist in monitoring operational costs during your assigned shift, ensuring staffing levels are appropriate and within budget. Help identify opportunities to minimize overtime and manage resources effectively.
  • Expense Tracking: Ensure that respite community resources are utilized efficiently, including managing supplies and meal services during your assigned shift, to maintain cost-effectiveness without compromising quality.
  • Shift Handover: Ensure that any critical information is passed on to the next shift supervisor, including any ongoing issues, staff updates, or resident concerns, to ensure continuity of care and operations.
  • Flexibility & Coverage: Assist with covering other shifts in case of emergencies or staff shortages. Ensure the respite community operates smoothly 24/7 by providing adequate staffing levels.
  • Other Duties as Assigned: Perform other duties as needed to support respite community operations or special projects, as assigned by the Respite Community Manager or leadership team.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Communication: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with residents, Respite Community Assistants, and the leadership team to ensure smooth respite community operations.
  • Customer Service & Problem Resolution: Ability to handle resident concerns and complaints in a professional and timely manner, ensuring all issues are addressed and resolved effectively by Respite Community Assistants.
  • Confidentiality: Ensure the confidentiality of all resident information, adhering to all privacy and security protocols.
  • Leadership: Strong supervisory skills to manage Respite Community Assistants effectively, provide training and development, and enforce respite community policies and procedures.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all activities on your assigned shift comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including health and safety standards, and respite community policies.
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively with Respite Community Assistants, other respite community staff, leadership, and community partners to ensure a seamless operational flow.
  • Crisis Management: Ability to assess situations and manage crises, making quick and informed decisions when necessary.
Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (higher degree accepted)

Minimum Experience:

  • 3 years of direct service experience in an emergency shelter or homeless services management

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association is required. Employees must maintain current BLS certification throughout their employment. Within 30 Days
