Job summary

FirstHealth of the Carolinas is seeking a Respiratory Student Tech (RCA) to assist in providing respiratory care under supervision in a central North Carolina health system. The role supports respiratory therapists with patient assessments, treatments, and essential documentation in a hospital setting.

The position requires enrollment in an accredited Respiratory Therapy program (CoARC) with GPA ≥ 2.5 and capacity to perform basic diagnostic procedures, with adherence to BLS and safety

Qualifications

• Minimum education includes a high school diploma or equivalent and current enrollment as a second-year student in an ACREDITED Respiratory Therapy program with GPA ≥ 2.5.
• Requires critical thinking, decisive judgment, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Must handle a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Responsibilities

• Assists Respiratory Therapist in providing respiratory care services as a limited licensed extern.
• Serves as a Respiratory Therapy Technician under supervision.
• Assists with patient assessments and treatments.
• Performs basic diagnostic procedures and specimen collection.
• Monitors and communicates changes in patient condition.
• Documents patient care provided.
• Administers handheld nebulizer treatments and oxygen.
