Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a part-time respiratory therapy extern to assist under the supervision of a licensed respiratory therapist. The role includes performing basic procedures such as oxygen therapy, pulse oximetry, aerosol therapy, and incentive spirometry, while ensuring patient safety and infection control.

Enrollment in an accredited respiratory therapy program is required. No prior experience is necessary, and BLS certification is required.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an accredited or approved program in Respiratory Therapy.
• No experience required.
• BLS certification is required (AHA).

Responsibilities

• Under the observation of a licensed respiratory therapist, may perform routine and basic level respiratory therapy procedures including oxygen therapy, pulse oximetry, aerosol therapy and incentive spirometry.
• Organizes and maintains supply of respiratory therapy equipment and supplies as needed by department specific standards.
• Collects equipment from all areas of the hospital and cleans and reassembles equipment according to proper procedure observing standard precautions.
• Completes annual hospital competencies and learns new equipment, supplies, procedures, and processes as needed.
• Performs patient positioning and transporting duties with proper technique.
• Provide age-appropriate care and follow department policies and procedures.
