Job summary

The Respiratory Therapist at Sarasota Memorial Health Care System assesses, plans, and delivers therapeutic respiratory care for patients with acute and chronic cardiopulmonary disease, including airway management and ventilator care.

Responsibilities include ABG sampling, CPR, administration of gases and medications, and collaboration with physicians and nurses. Some procedures may require BLS/ACLS/PALS/NRP within 6 months of hire.

Qualifications

• Active Florida RRT licensure required under Florida Statutes, Chapter 468.
• Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care Program.
• BLS required; ACLS and PALS within six months of hire.
• NRP certification within six months of transfer/hire (Venice Location only).
• Active NBRC credential.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate respiratory therapies for cardiopulmonary disease.
• Perform airway management, ABG sampling, CPR, and ventilator management.
• Involve interdisciplinary collaboration with physicians, nurses, and staff.
• May perform intubations, arterial line insertions, and bedside bronchoscopies with approval.
• Initiate therapy under departmental protocols; precepting/shadowing roles possible.
