Job Summary:

The respiratory therapist performs all respiratory care diagnostic and therapeutic procedures provided by the Department of Respiratory Care. They should be energetic and motivated to support the success of a growing service. Refer to supervisory personnel in any doubtful situation.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements:
  1. Demonstrate ability to relate to coworkers in a professional and respectful manner, promoting a safety culture.
  2. Perform respiratory related therapeutic and diagnostic maneuvers in accordance with policies and procedures (50%).
    • Implement and assess oxygen and therapeutic gas functions.
    • Ensure proper setup and implementation of procedures.
    • Provide aerosolized medication, CPT, IPV.
    • Setup and monitor ventilators.
    • Communicate with staff to improve services.
    • Perform CPR and diagnostic procedures (ABG analysis, pulse oximetry, nitric oxide studies).
  3. Assess and reassess patient needs and response to therapy.
  4. Interact with physicians and nurses, work in ICU settings, respond to critical areas, assist with procedures, and perform bedside studies (25%).
  5. Perform all other aspects of Respiratory Care according to policies (5%).
  6. Perform other duties as required (5%).
  7. Practice safety and infection control policies (5%).
  8. Provide service excellence (10%).
  9. Incorporate Quality Improvement into daily work (5%).
  10. Provide age-appropriate care to infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
  11. Provide specialized care to high-risk patients, including restraint and pain management, and abuse assessment (<1%).
Job Specifications:
  • Minimum Education: Graduate of an AMA-approved school in Respiratory Therapy.
  • Experience: Leadership skills desirable.
  • Licenses/Registrations: RRT with NBRC, Missouri Respiratory Care Practitioner license, and BLS/ALS certifications.
  • Physical and working conditions: Capable of long hours, lifting, exposure to hazards, and emergency response.
Additional Requirements:
  • Protective Equipment: Eye protection, gowns, masks, gloves, lead aprons.
  • Knowledge of equipment used for therapy and diagnostics.
  • Ability to work with others, demonstrate professionalism, and handle emergencies.
  • Physical and vision requirements as specified.
