Job Description

As a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) at UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial, you will work with physicians and nursing staff to provide respiratory care procedures for patients across all age groups. Under the supervision of the Director and/or Supervisor of Respiratory Care Services, you will coordinate and perform direct respiratory care, serve as a resource and mentor, and demonstrate proficiency in respiratory care practices.

Essential Job Functions

• Maintain departmental productivity and efficiency.
• Complete patient assignments timely with minimal assistance.
• Explain procedures and protocols to patients and families.
• Follow proper identification procedures before care.
• Read prescriptions and determine appropriate respiratory care modalities.
• Notify medical staff of adverse reactions.
• Instruct patients on breathing techniques.
• Maintain accurate records and charts.
• Perform blood gas punctures and interpret results proficiently.
• Utilize monitoring and diagnostic equipment following established procedures.

Qualifications

• Completion of an AMA-approved RRT program.
• Basic Life Support Certification (American Heart Association).
• NBRC RRT credential within 6 months of hire.
• Copy of diploma or transcripts.
