Job summary

MercyOne Health System in the Quad Cities region seeks a Respiratory Therapist to perform patient assessment, therapy administration, and collaboration with care teams across neonatal to geriatric patients.

The position includes a night shift (6:00 PM–6:30 AM) with every 3rd weekend, relocation options, and a comprehensive benefits package with wellness programs, education reimbursement, health insurance (dental and vision), PTO, retirement planning, and life insurance.

Qualifications

• Must be credentialed as a certified or registered respiratory therapist by the NBRC.
• Must have an active license as a respiratory care practitioner in the State of Iowa.
• BLS certification within 3 months of hire.
• ACLS certification preferred within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Performs inhaled medication therapy, arterial puncture, blood gas analysis, pulmonary function testing, chest physiotherapy, oxygen therapy and related modalities.
• Participates in CPR, assists or performs intubation, manages artificial airway and transports patients requiring ventilatory support.
• Assembles, troubleshoots and maintains Respiratory Care equipment including ventilators, monitors and gas delivery systems.
• Interprets diagnostic results and reports findings including blood gas analysis and pulmonary function tests.
• Maintains accurate medical records and billing documentation; provides patient instruction on device use.

General Summary

Join the MercyOne Family! As Respiratory Therapist you will perform patient assessment, evaluation for appropriate therapy, administration of therapy, consultation with other health care providers, diagnostic testing, implementation and troubleshooting of equipment and monitoring of patient. These services are provided as appropriate for patient age to include neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric adult.

Essential Functions

• Performs inhaled medication therapy, arterial puncture, blood gas analysis, pulmonary function testing, chest physiotherapy, oxygen therapy, helium-oxygen therapy, carbon dioxide-oxygen therapy, nitric oxide-oxygen therapy, CPAP therapy, BIPAP therapy, bland aerosol therapy, PEP therapy, high-frequency oscillator therapy, and ventilatory support modalities as ordered by physician.
• Participates in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, assists or performs intubation, manages artificial airway, and transport of patients requiring ventilatory support.
• Assembles, manipulates, and troubleshoots Respiratory Care equipment including mechanical ventilators, pulse oximeters, capnometers, aerosol generators, medical gas delivery systems, humidification systems, and mechanical percussors.
• Interprets diagnostic results for feasibility and reports results, to include blood or other body fluid analysis by blood gas analyzer and co-oximeter, pulmonary function screening, pulmonary mechanics studies, end-tidal C02, and pulse oximetry.
• Performs record keeping, billing and medical record documentation functions.
• Provides patient instruction in the use of Respiratory Care devices and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be credentialed as a certified or registered respiratory therapist by the National Board for Respiratory Care upon hire.
• Must have an active license as a respiratory care practitioner in the State of Iowa upon hire.
• Must be BLS certified within 3 months of hire.
• Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training is required within 6 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter.
• Prefer ACLS certification within one year of hire.
