Job description

Overview

Perform routine and critical respiratory care procedures under the supervision of a Respiratory Care Supervisor and Medical Director. Responsible for the performance and competency of care for Neonatal, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric populations.

Responsibilities

1. Disassemble, wash, rinse, dry, and package respiratory equipment.
2. Evaluate the results of patient respiratory care delivered per care plans.
3. Demonstrate competency in clinical judgment, technical skills, and knowledge as a role model in Respiratory Care.
4. Prepare, test, and maintain respiratory therapy equipment for proper and safe operation; report malfunctions.
5. Chart accurately on respiratory flow sheets in the EMR and on care plans; ensure accurate charging in the EMR.
6. Complete assessments on ventilator and other respiratory care patients.
7. Recommend interventions and further treatment or referrals as needed.
8. Record procedures, patient responses, and compliance with sleep therapy documentation; communicate adverse effects to physicians.
9. Evaluate patients for routine and advanced respiratory care in various settings including inpatient units, Emergency room, and ICU.
10. Obtain and analyze blood gases (arterial, venous, capillary).
11. Participate on all Transport teams (NICU, PEDS, and Adult).
12. Meet all requirements of Clinical Ladder Level 3 for therapists.
13. Assist with stocking supplies and cleaning respiratory equipment.

Qualifications

Certifications: Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) within 10 weeks - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR); Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC); Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA).

Education: Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy; Certificate of Completion in Respiratory Therapy.

Work Experience: Respiratory therapy experience required.

Salary Range
