Job summary

Accendra Health seeks a Respiratory Therapist to provide home-based care across Waukegan, Rockford, and nearby Wisconsin. The role combines office coordination with field visits, focusing on oxygen, CPAP/BiPAP, and ventilation support. You will educate families, document care, and collaborate with the care team.

Licensure in IL required with possible WI upgrade, valid driver’s license, and CPR certification. Role includes on-call rotation and travel across assigned territories.

Qualifications

• Active IL RT license required.
• WI RT license acceptable if pursuing.
• Must be able to lift 10–50 lbs.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Comfort with mobile tech, navigation tools, and digital documentation.
• Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
• Maintain licensure in good standing for all practiced states.
• Hold CPR Certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform home visits to set up oxygen, CPAP/BiPAP, and ventilation equipment and follow-ups.
• Educate patients and caregivers on equipment use, cleaning, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
• Assess patient needs, document care delivered, and escalate concerns.
• Respond to hospital discharge requests and support patient needs.
• Collaborate with physicians, case managers, and internal branch teams.
• Maintain accurate documentation using iPad/laptop.
• Set up and operate respiratory care equipment (oxygen therapy, nebulization, PAP, ventilation).
• Inspect and test equipment to ensure proper operation.

Why is this Respiratory Therapist role different

This role offers a dynamic mix of office and field work, supporting patients across Waukegan, Rockford, and occasionally Wisconsin. You will work with two small, stable, long-tenured teams while enjoying autonomy, variety, and patient connection.

Key highlights

• Work Arrangement: 40% office, 60% road (home visits).
• Hours: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM.
• Travel: Covers Waukegan; assists Rockford 1–2 days/week; may see Wisconsin patients.
• Salary range $40 – $45 per hour
• On-Call transparency Shared on-call rotation with Chicago area; 1–2 weekdays/week and 1 weekend/month.
• Telehealth licensed; occasional in-person weekend visits.

What you’ll do

• Conduct home visits to perform oxygen, CPAP/BiPAP, and ventilation equipment setups and follow‑ups
• Educate patients and caregivers on equipment use, cleaning, troubleshooting, and maintenance
• Assess patient needs, document care delivered, and elevate concerns appropriately
• Respond to hospital discharge requests and support patient needs
• Collaborating with physicians, case managers, and internal branch teams
• Maintain accurate documentation using iPad/laptop
• Set up and operate various types of respiratory care equipment, including, but not limited to, oxygen therapy, nebulization therapy, apnea monitoring, suctioning, PAP, invasive and non-invasive ventilation
• Inspects and tests equipment to ensure proper operating condition
• Perform clinical assessments and tests such as pulse oximetry, ETCO2, spirometry and gathering vital signs
• Performs other duties as required

What we look for

• Respiratory Therapist with an active IL RT license.
• Open to obtaining WI RT License.
• Ability to stand, lift, push and/or pull objects ranging from 10 – 50 lbs.
• Valid driver's license
• Comfortable using mobile technology, navigation tools, and digital documentation
• Education Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program
• Certificates, licenses, registrations or professional designations
• Hold a current RCP license in the state of practice (or states that the location covers) if that state requires an RCP license to allow the practice of respiratory therapy
• Hold a current CPR Certification
• Hold all applicable licensure in good standing for all states of practice
