Overview

Scheduling Details: This position will work as needed with a minimum 1 shift every 6 weeks of 530a-6p or 530p-6a. The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) shall provide all aspects of respiratory care under the guidance of a qualified physician and the Director of Respiratory Therapy.

Qualifications
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 1 year - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 1 year - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within 1 year - American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)
  • Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)
Education

Associate's Degree: Respiratory Therapy (Required) OR Bachelors Degree Respiratory Therapy

Responsibilities
  • Effectively administer oxygen mixtures utilizing various oxygen delivery devices.
  • Can set up, initiate and maintain ventilators and CPAP devices.
  • Can assist with intubation.
  • Is familiar with the principles of airway maintenance, endotracheal and tracheostomy care.
  • Follows the procedures and observations for care during and after extubation.
  • Initiates and maintains cardiopulmonary resuscitation and other related life support procedures.
  • Confers with physicians regarding all aspects of Respiratory Therapy concerning patient care, interprets and carries out physicians orders.
  • Administers specific dosages of all Respiratory Therapy related medications as specified by a physician.
  • Recognizes, interprets, and records signs and symptoms of medication side effects particularly those that require notification of a physician.
  • Effectively and safely uses equipment for delivering positive pressure, humidification, nebulization, and medications to patients.
  • Effectively utilizes methods that assist in the removal of secretions from the bronchial tree such as, hydration, breathing and coughing exercise, postural drainage, chest percussion and airway suctioning.
  • Performs all aspects of pulmonary function testing, if trained.
  • Effectively uses all department pulmonary function equipment. Performs 12 lead EKG's and prepares them for physician interpretation.
  • When needed is capable of overseeing the work of the certified and non-certified technicians who are performing those procedures requiring a high level of expertise.
  • Is able to dismantle and reassemble most of the Respiratory Therapy equipment.
  • Is able to take all necessary precautions to insure the safe handling of all respiratory equipment.
  • Works well with each age level of patient. Is sensitive to the age specific needs of each individual patient and alters the clinical approach accordingly.
  • Works independently and can supervise the needs of their shifts when needed.
  • Practices the WAY TO BE standards.
  • Performs arterial punctures and arterial line draws in accordance with guidelines and competency assessment and evaluation of a patients respiratory status and is able to set up BiPap and Opiflow devices and evaluate the patient’s response to therapy education of medications utilized for respiratory care.
Compensation And Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $31.95 per hour - $54.95 per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
