Job summary

Mercy Health Rehabilitation Hospital, Youngstown is seeking a PRN Respiratory Therapist to join our rehabilitation team. You will apply respiratory therapies, monitor ventilators, and ensure sterile, accurate care within our patient-focused facility.

The role requires an OH license, graduation from an AMA-approved Respiratory Therapy program, and current CPR certification. Prior cardiopulmonary experience is valued for effective patient support throughout rehabilitation.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an AMA-approved school of Respiratory Therapy.
• Current CPR certification.
• OH license to practice as a Respiratory Therapist.

Responsibilities

• Maintains knowledge of oxygen delivery methods and equipment and assesses side effects.
• Administers respiratory therapy treatments and understands potential side effects.
• Sets up and monitors mechanical ventilators and related critical care duties.
• Assesses pain affecting rehabilitation and contacts physician for intervention.
• Performs arterial punctures for blood gas analysis and understands risks.
• Follows department equipment sterilization procedures.
• Documents all pertinent data in the patient record after any service.

How you'll contribute

ARespiratory Therapistwho excels in this role:

• Maintains knowledge of the various methods of oxygen delivery, including the necessary equipment. Remains alert to assess possible side effects to oxygen delivery.

• Administers respiratory therapy treatments, understands the purpose of each and the possible side effects associated with each.

• Sets-up and monitors mechanical ventilators and the associated critical care duties required for such treatment, such as airway management and tracheal suctioning.

• Able to assess patient pain interfering with optimal level of function or participation in rehabilitation. Make appropriate physician contact for intervention.

• Performs arterial punctures to obtain arterial blood samples for blood gas analysis, and understands the possible complications and contraindications associated with the procedure.

• Follows departmental equipment sterilization procedures.

• Documents all pertinent data on the patient's medical record following completion of any service.

What we're looking for

Applicants should have a current state Respiratory Therapist license in the state of OH. Additional requirements include:

• Graduate of an AMA-approved school of Respiratory Therapy

• Current CPR certification

• Three or more years of previous experience in all aspects of cardiopulmonary services preferred
