Position Summary
Assesses, treats, and cares for patients with breathing disorders. Initiates and conducts therapeutic procedures; maintains patient records; and selects, assembles, checks, and operates equipment.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Demonstrates competency in respiratory therapeutics and in the use of non-invasive ventilators, pulmonary diagnostics, and other equipment required for respiratory care.
- Maintains accurate and precise documentation.
- Demonstrates strong analytical reasoning and effectively blends patient care management skills with technical expertise.
- Communicates openly and effectively with all members of the healthcare team.
- Proficient in quality control and maintenance of arterial blood gas analyzers, specimen collection, and analysis of blood for gas transport and acid/base determination.
- Maintains regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies and applicable standards.
- Ensures compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Other Related Functions
- Provides care appropriate to the patient’s age and medical condition.
- Demonstrates expertise in medical gas administration, environmental control systems, humidification, medication delivery, ventilatory support, and CPR.
- Provides care for patients in non-critical and/or intermediate care units.
- Performs advanced clinical roles as per the RRT Clinical Ladder, including preceptor, mentor, educator, and clinical specialist.
- Instructs clinical practicum students.
- Provides age-appropriate care, understanding growth and development principles, and assesses patient data accordingly.
Qualifications
Education/Training
- Associate of Science in Respiratory Care or Cardiopulmonary Sciences. Certificates accepted if licensed before December 31, 1987.
- Advanced critical care training as per Orlando Health’s Respiratory Clinical Ladder.
- Basic computer and mechanical skills required.
Licensure/Certification
- Florida Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) license.
- National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) RRT credential, maintained active every five years if registered after July 1, 2002.
- Current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.
- Advanced Life Support as required per unit.
- Preferred: Active membership in AARC and FSRC.
