Work Hours/Shift

Days PRN - as needed

You Will Be Responsible For
  • Incorporates patient, physician, customer needs and concerns into decision-making and organizational action.
  • Respond to emergency situations immediately, perform appropriate patient assessment and intervention, and replace emergency supplies in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate understanding of Code Blue and Rapid Response procedures.
  • Assure code blue intubation and blade boxes are checked daily and after use.
  • Assures mandatory hospital and department competencies are done annually in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates ability to access department and Medical Center information.
  • Perform respiratory care procedures according to physician orders, department policy/procedure, and patient care plan.
  • Perform ABG’s and process according to department procedure, understand results, and take appropriate action.
  • Report critical values per hospital policy.
  • Demonstrates understanding of home equipment set-ups procedure.
  • Facilitators will be the “point person” on the shift, determine appropriate staffing, and ensure everyone has what they need to complete assigned work.
  • Follow hospital policies and the AIDET communication model at all times.
  • Operate bedside spirometry equipment and initiate, maintain, and discontinue BIPAP.
  • Assist with bronchoscopy procedures and demonstrate proficiency with multiple devices such as EzPAP, Flutter Valve, PEP, and others.
  • Operate ventilators like Draeger Ventilator and iVent, and document in hospital IPOCS.
  • Understand the population served, including neonate/infant, geriatric, COPD, pneumonia, and non-English speaking patients.
  • Order, perform, confirm, and document ECGs.
  • Set-up, implement therapy, wean appropriately, and document high flow oxygen systems.
  • Assist NICU RTs with troubleshooting and demonstrate knowledge of NICU equipment.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of pulmonary function testing procedures and equipment.
Qualifications
What You Will Need:
  • Associates Degree or Technical School graduate required.
  • Bachelors Degree preferred.
  • Up to 1 Year of Experience required; 2 years acceptable for new grads.
  • Kansas Respiratory Therapist License.
  • BLS through American Heart Association.
  • NRP if working in NICU.
Job Summary

The Respiratory Therapist provides direct respiratory care to patients in all hospital areas, following Pulmonary Services procedures. Responsible for administering modalities based on assessment and evaluation, and providing recommendations for care adjustments.
