This position involves providing timely and efficient services to patients across all settings served by the department. The CRT/RRT will follow the guidelines outlined in the Cardiopulmonary Services Department Policy and Procedure Manual, assist with administrative tasks, and maintain clinical competencies through ongoing education and orientation. The CRT/RRT works as part of a team within the facility, aligning with the hospital's mission, vision, and values. The role may require working weekends, evenings, nights, flex schedules, and being on call.
Essential Functions:
- Assess patients appropriately, interpret results, and suggest alternative treatments.
- Review respiratory care orders, perform breathing treatments, and administer IS therapy as ordered.
- Collaborate with nursing staff on patient therapies.
- Adjust modes of therapy as needed.
- Assist physicians in clinical management of patients.
- Involve patients and their significant others in care activities for education and information sharing.
- Administer medications following hospital policy.
- Interpret and document verbal and telephone orders accurately.
- Use necessary patient equipment effectively.
- React calmly and effectively in emergencies.
- Work autonomously and independently.
- Demonstrate competency in job duties and ongoing professional development.
Accountability:
- Reports to: Cardiopulmonary Services Director/Manager
- Supervises: None
Qualifications:
CRT:
- Oklahoma State license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
- NBRC certification as CRT required and maintained.
- Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care Program or equivalent.
- Minimum 1 year post-graduation experience.
- BLS certification within 30 days; ACLS and PALS within 120 days of hire; certifications must be current.
RRT:
- Oklahoma State license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
- NBRC certification as RRT required and maintained.
- Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care Program or equivalent.
- Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy or equivalent.
- Minimum 1 year post-graduation experience.
- BLS, ACLS, PALS certifications as above.
Physical Demands:
- Heavy lifting (50-100 lbs occasionally, 10-20 lbs constantly).
- Constant standing/walking; occasional keyboard/dexterity activities.
- Effective verbal communication, good vision, hearing, and color acuity.
Environmental Conditions:
- High exposure to hazardous risks including infections, blood, body fluids, electrical equipment, and chemicals. Standard precautions are required.
