Job summary

Franciscan Health Indianapolis Campus in Indianapolis, IN is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist to oversee the diagnosis, treatment, and care management of patients with pulmonary disorders. This role uses testing techniques to assist physicians in determining therapy type, method and duration in accordance with orders.

The ideal candidate holds an Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Care, NBRC RRT, state licensing, and BLS/ACLS certifications.

Qualifications

• Must hold an accredited Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Care.
• NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential required.
• Current BLS certification.
• ACLS certification.
• Respiratory Care Practitioner license (state).
• High school diploma or GED required.

Responsibilities

• Attend code blue and rapid response activations for airway management.
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and document history for sleep-related disorders.
• Set up and operate mechanical ventilation for neonatal to adult patients.
• Deliver supplemental oxygen ensuring proper device selection.
• Administer inhaled medications and coordinate therapy as prescribed.
• Conduct lung expansion therapies and airway clearance techniques.
• Educate patients and caregivers on disease management and breathing techniques.
• Assist with procedures such as EKGs, ABGs, and pulmonary function tests.

The Registered Respiratory Therapist oversees the diagnosis, treatment, and care management of patients with pulmonary disorders. This position uses a variety of testing techniques to assist doctors in diagnosing disorders and determines requirements for treatment, such as type, method and duration of therapy, precautions to be taken, or medication and dosages, compatible with physicians’ orders.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

• Emergency Response-Attends code blue and rapid response team activation to perform or assist with airway management.
• Patient Assessment-Performs thorough patient assessments, obtains patient history, and elicits an accurate description of sleep problems in order to diagnose and treat patients with science-based medicine.
• Ventilation-Sets up and operates mechanical ventilators using invasive or non-invasive procedures on patients ranging from neonatal to adult. Administers high frequency jet ventilation (HFJV), high-frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV), and conventional methods to deliver nitric oxide to patients.
• Oxygenation-Delivers supplemental oxygen therapy, ensuring proper selection of the delivery device, to ensure adequate patient oxygenation.
• Inhaled Medications-Administers inhaled medications to patients, such as SABA, LABA, LAMA, IBS, antibiotics, and other prescribed inhaled medications.
• Lung Expansion & Airway Clearance- Therapies-Performs incentive spirometry, PEP, & Flutter therapies on patients to facilitate airway clearance and lung expansion.
• Patient Education-Educates patients and their caregivers about their conditions and teaches appropriate disease management techniques, such as breathing exercises or the use of medications or respiratory equipment.
• Special Procedures-Conducts special procedures including electrocardiograms (EKGs), arterial blood gas tests (ABG), pulmonary function tests and surfactant delivery. Assists physicians during caesarean section births, high-risk deliveries, and patient transport.
• Machine Maintenance-Ensures proper functioning and appropriate utilization of Respiratory Therapy equipment in use by patients. Assists in disassembling, cleaning, disinfecting, reassembling and storing of equipment.
• Treatment Plans-Evaluates patients’ response to therapy and make necessary adjustments to treatment plans
