PRN Night

JOB SUMMARY

The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) PRN possesses advanced knowledge and training in the cardiopulmonary system, used to manage and treat patients. Therapists utilize various scientific methods, therapies, and techniques to optimize patient care and outcomes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
  1. Performs and directs respiratory care services (including oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, inhaled medications, airway clearance, invasive and non-invasive ventilation, bedside spirometry), as ordered by a patient's attending physician, in accordance with established procedures.
  2. Administers cardiopulmonary resuscitation in emergency situations.
  3. Reviews physician's orders, examines diagnostic test results, and provides appropriate therapy based on the patient's current clinical condition. Implements approved protocols as directed by the physician when appropriate.
  4. Performs routine and advanced respiratory therapy, prioritizing patient needs in a dynamic environment.
  5. Instructs patients on the use of respiratory care equipment professionally and thoroughly. Assesses patient responses to therapy and coaches improvements in technique.
  6. Documents all treatments, therapies, supplies used, and charges accurately. Reports outcomes and makes recommendations as appropriate.
  7. Adheres to policies including infection control, isolation, HIPAA, time and attendance, and social media guidelines.
  8. Collaborates professionally with healthcare team members and students.
  9. Maintains responsibility and initiative to meet professional and technical requirements set by leadership.
  10. Incorporates continuous quality improvement into clinical practice, identifying opportunities for enhancement.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
  • General knowledge of respiratory care modalities, therapies, equipment, and medications.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow flow chart protocols.
  • Ability to work effectively under stress.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic computer skills, including data entry, electronic medical records, and email.
