Job Summary
Responsible for administering safe and competent respiratory care as ordered per physician, monitoring mechanical ventilation, administering medications, patient assessment, understanding ramifications of hemodynamic monitoring, blood work results, and providing teaching and training to patients.
Essential Functions
- Deliver respiratory care procedures competently across hospital areas according to policies and protocols.
- Maintain accurate documentation and charge capture; develop and update patient care plans related to respiratory therapy.
- Verify and initiate physician orders for respiratory care.
- Demonstrate competency with all respiratory care equipment, troubleshoot issues, and ensure proper disinfection and sterilization.
- Manage oxygen and aerosol delivery devices, as well as non-invasive and invasive mechanical ventilation devices.
- Perform airway management including airway placement, ventilation, intubation, and suctioning; assist with tracheostomy procedures; perform CPR when necessary.
- Conduct tracheostomy and endotracheal tube care, and implement speaking valve trials as ordered.
- Assist with diagnostic procedures like bronchoscopy.
- Assess decannulation risks and perform weaning assessments and procedures.
- Participate in early mobility programs and monitor gas exchange via pulse oximetry, CO2, and ABG analysis.
- Provide patient and family education and ensure effective handoffs.
- Contribute to departmental meetings and patient care rounds; communicate patient status updates to the team.
- Assist in training new staff and students; respond effectively in emergencies.
- Adhere to principles of lifespan care, working cooperatively within the team, maintaining good attendance, and communicating fluently in English.
Pay Range: $29.13 - $38.05
Qualifications
Education: Respiratory Therapy education qualifying for credentialing by the National Board for Respiratory Care.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Current Respiratory Therapy license from the relevant state licensing body.
- CRT/RRT credential or Texas Respiratory Care Practitioner Certification, with ongoing credential maintenance.
- BLS and ACLS certifications.
Experience: 1 year preferred.
