Job Summary:

MedStar Health is seeking a Respiratory Care Practitioner to join our team at MedStar Harbor Memorial Hospital. The ideal candidate is a certified respiratory therapist committed to providing exceptional patient care through strong knowledge in the field. Respiratory care is ordered by physicians according to established standards, practices, and protocols.

We are looking for someone with a working knowledge of human respiratory anatomy, physiology, and pathology related to respiratory care. The candidate should be familiar with respiratory care equipment and its application in a clinical setting, able to assess hazardous conditions, and work effectively with patients of all ages (neonatal to geriatrics). The ability to remain calm under stress and work well as part of a team is essential.

Primary Duties:

1. Assess the physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and cultural dimensions of the patient, including educational needs, and document appropriately. Refer to competency validation documents as applicable.
2. Perform all respiratory therapy treatments and services, including application, operation, monitoring, and management of equipment such as oxygen, mixed gases, humidity, ventilators, bronchial hygiene, lung expansion, spirometry, EKG, and blood gas analysis.
3. Employ therapeutic communication, interviewing techniques, problem-solving, and crisis intervention skills during patient care.
4. Respond to and participate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, maintaining airway management, oxygenation, ventilation, and performing chest compressions as needed.
5. Enhance workflow efficiency by monitoring interdepartmental systems, reviewing electronic medical records, and recommending improvements.

Qualifications:

• Associate degree from an AMA-accredited program in respiratory care (AAS degree or higher).
• Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) from NBRC or NBRC Registered Pulmonary Function Technician.
• BLS certification required; ACLS, NRP, and PALS certifications required within one year of hire.
• Registry eligibility; some experience preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related field.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification from NBRC.

This position offers a hiring range of $34.98 - $62.52.
