General Summary of Position

Job Summary:

MedStar Health is seeking a Respiratory Care Practitioner to join our team at MedStar Harbor Memorial Hospital. The ideal candidate will be a certified respiratory therapist dedicated to providing exceptional patient care through strong knowledge of respiratory practices. Respiratory care is ordered by physicians following established standards, practices, and protocols.

We are looking for someone with a working knowledge of human respiratory anatomy, physiology, and pathology related to respiratory care. The candidate should be familiar with respiratory care equipment and its clinical application, capable of assessing hazardous conditions, and working effectively with patients of all ages. The ability to remain calm under stress and communicate well with diverse individuals is essential.

Primary Duties:

  1. Assess the physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and cultural dimensions of patients, including educational needs, and document appropriately. Refer to competency validation documents as applicable.
  2. Perform all respiratory therapy treatments, including oxygen, mixed gases, humidity, ventilators, bronchial hygiene, lung expansion, spirometry, EKGs, and blood gas analysis.
  3. Use therapeutic communication, interviewing, problem-solving, and crisis intervention skills in patient care.
  4. Respond to emergencies, participate in CPR, maintain airway, provide oxygen and ventilation, and perform closed chest cardiac massage as needed.
  5. Enhance workflow efficiency by monitoring interdepartmental systems, policies, and procedures, and recommending improvements. Review electronic medical records and physician orders during shifts.

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree from an AMA-accredited program in respiratory care with an AAS degree or higher.
  • CRT (Certified Respiratory Therapist) from NBRC or equivalent, registered in respiratory therapy or pulmonary function technology.
  • BLS certification required.
  • ACLS, NRP, and PALS certifications required within one year of hire.
  • Registry eligibility; some experience preferred.

Preferred education: Bachelor's degree in a related healthcare field.

Preferred certification: RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist) from NBRC.

This position offers a hiring range of $34.98 - $62.52.
