Job summary

Children's Hospital Colorado is seeking a Respiratory Therapist for an outpatient, full-time position in Colorado. The RT will provide family-centered care, educate patients and families, and collaborate with inter-professional teams to improve outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Assoc of Arts or Sciences.
  • Respiratory Therapy/Care as area of study.
  • One (1) year of experience delivering respiratory therapy/care.
  • Licenses: ACLS, BLS, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Registered Respiratory Therapist.
  • License required after hire; ACLS within 90 days if in Medical/Surgical or Emergency Department.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses and evaluates unit delivery of patient- and family-centered care in clinic.
  • Participates in development or revision of policies or practice guidelines.
  • Transmits standard of care practices from professional organizations.
  • Identifies gaps and participates in quality improvement with interdisciplinary team.

Job Overview

The Respiratory Therapist (RT) provides family-centered care as demonstrated by recognizing the patient, family and/or designee as a full partner in providing compassionate and coordinated care based on respect for patient's preferences, values, and needs. The RT assumes an active role in clinical education of patients, families, and staff; and functions as a role model within respiratory and inter-professional teams, fostering open communication, mutual respect, teamwork, and shared decision‑making to achieve quality patient care.

Department: RT Shared Services, Outpatient

Status:Full-time, benefit eligible

Shift: Outpatient hours. Monday - Friday.

*This position is eligilble for relocation assistance for those moving 100 miles or greater. Conditions may apply.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assesses and evaluates unit delivery of patient and family centered care, incorporating the respiratory process while providing developmentally appropriate, culturally sensitive, evidence-based care within a defined clinic environment.
  • Identifies need for and/or participates in the development or revision of organizational or departmental policies, procedures or practice guidelines in comparison with evidence based clinical practice.
  • Communicates the standard of care practices from applicable professional organization and/or association.
  • Identifies gaps in best practice and participates in the implementation of unit, division, or organizational quality improvement; and participates with the interdisciplinary team to improve quality and safety outcomes.
  • Analyzes information and technology of patient, unit or organization outcomes to partner and foster communication, clinical decision making, error prevention, and care coordination.
  • Uses data to monitor the outcomes of care processes and use improvement methods to design and test changes to continuously improve the quality and safety of health care systems.
  • Maintains membership of a respiratory or professional healthcare organization as required to maintain credential.
  • Participates in education by precepting and educating orientees, students, peers.
  • In an Ambulatory setting, performs all Respiratory diagnostics to include but not limited to Pulmonary Function Testing (spirometry, lung volumes, helium-dilution, DLCO), Bronchoprovocation-Exercise Induced and Methacholine Challenges), Impulse oscillometry, Bronchoscopy Assist, Respiratory Education/care coordination.
  • Role models and coach's patient and family care needs through assessing changes in patient outcomes/clinic needs in the provision of care, within scope of practice.
  • Identifies and works to removes barriers to promote communication and advocacy of patient values, preferences and expressed needs as part of implementation of care plan, evaluation of care and assessment of patient/family learning needs to the interdisciplinary team.
  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary care team to coordinate individualized care and education for patients/families.
  • Follows departmental or organizational practices and procedures that support effective teamwork.
  • Participates in safety and quality of care projects and disseminates and incorporates into team setting.
  • Minimizes risk of harm to patients and providers through both system effectiveness and individual performance.
  • Integrates best current evidence with clinical knowledge and patient/family preferences and values for delivery of optimal health care.

Salary Information
  • Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.
  • Hourly Range: $34.45 to $51.67
