Job summary

Children's Hospital Colorado seeks an experienced Respiratory Therapist Specialist for night shifts on the RT Shared Services team at the North Campus in Broomfield. The role focuses on family‑centered care, education, and collaboration within interprofessional teams to deliver high‑quality respiratory care.

The ideal candidate holds an RT credential, has pediatric experience, and is prepared to achieve required certifications within stated timelines.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Respiratory Therapy required; Bachelor’s degree preferred at hire.
  • Minimum three years of respiratory therapy experience, including at least one year in pediatrics.
  • RRT required; CPFT or RPFT credential within one year for outpatient pulmonary function lab; BLS/ACLS/PALS as specified; NBRC credentials preferred for RRT‑NPS.

  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to coordinate patient and family education and care plans.

Job Overview

The Respiratory Therapist (RT) Specialist provides family‑centered care, recognizing the patient, family, and/or designee as full partners in compassionate and coordinated care. The RT Specialist actively participates in the clinical education of patients, families, and staff and serves as a role model within respiratory and inter‑professional teams to foster open communication, mutual respect, teamwork, and shared decision‑making to achieve quality patient care.

Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in Respiratory Therapy/Care required; Bachelor’s degree preferred at the time of hire.
  • Minimum three (3) years of respiratory therapy experience, including at least one (1) year in pediatrics.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) required; Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) or Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) credential required within one (1) year for outpatient pulmonary function lab setting; Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) for Healthcare Providers; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 90 days of hire; Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required within 90 days of hire; Neonatal/Pediatric Respiratory Care Specialist (RRT‑NPS) preferred by the NBRC.
  • State of Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) Respiratory Therapist license.
Essential Functions
  • Functions independently in two or more areas.
  • Demonstrates ability to be Charge role.
  • Assesses and evaluates unit delivery of patient and family centered care, incorporating the respiratory process while providing developmentally appropriate, culturally sensitive, evidence‑based care.
  • Role models and coaches patient and family care needs through assessing changes in patient outcomes and unit needs within scope of practice.
  • Identifies and removes barriers to promote communication and advocacy of patient values, preferences, and expressed needs as part of implementation of care plans and assessment of patient/family learning needs to the interdisciplinary team.
  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary care team to coordinate individualized care and education for patients/families across the continuum.
  • Participates in designing departmental or organizational systems that support effective teamwork.
  • Participates in safety and quality of care projects and disseminates and incorporates into team setting.
  • Provides direction and support to the team.
  • Role models integration of evidence into practice.
  • Identifies need for and/or participates in development or revision of organizational or departmental policies, procedures, or practice guidelines in comparison with evidence based clinical practice.
  • Communicates the standard of care practices from applicable professional organization and/or association.
  • Identifies gaps in best practice and participates in implementation of unit, division or organizational quality improvement and with the interdisciplinary team to improve quality and safety outcomes.
  • Analyzes information and technology of patient, unit or organization outcomes to partner and foster communication, clinical decision making, error prevention, and care coordination.
  • Maintains membership of a respiratory or professional healthcare organization as required to maintain credential.
  • Participates in education by precepting and educating orientees, students, and peers; acts as a clinical resource and/or presents clinical programs.
Physical Requirements
  • Body movement: Frequently stand/walk up to 12 hours per day; frequently use hands while keyboarding and writing; sit up to 2–4 hours per day while accessing computer, talking on the telephone, and attending meetings.
  • Back and upper body (lifting and carrying): Occasionally lift/force exerted up to 35 pounds (16 kilos).
  • Vision and hearing: Constantly used for daily job duties.
  • Others: Able to assist or assume direct patient care as census permits; exposure to unsteady or falling patient may occur during transfer.
Salary and Benefits

Hourly Rate: $43.29 – Pay is dependent on applicant’s relevant experience.
